Easyriders Bike Show 2014 Anaheim

It is January and for custom bike builders and those that enjoy looking at custom bikes that means that the 2014 Easyriders Bike Show Tour is now underway. The first stop for the tour was Saturday, January 4 at the Anaheim Convention Center. I have been attending various Easyriders events as a participant or spectator since the mid-80’s and while there are definitely bikes that show up in the show year after year, it is interesting to watch the evolution of motorcycle building. Huge front wheels, etched chrome and amazing paint jobs seemed to be the theme in recent years …

Bartels’ Ride to the Dunes for Child Abuse Awareness

On Sunday, Bartels’ Harley-Davidson sponsored a Ride to the Dunes to help bring about a greater awareness of the epidemic state of child abuse. The ride began at Bartels’ in Marina del Rey and took the coast up to Sycamore Cove State Beach. I had too much to do Sunday to take the day off, but I did head over to Bartels’ before everyone took off. They had music provided by Jukebox Zero and a couple sponsors there providing donuts and selling raffle tickets. With Grand Marshal, Lorenzo Lamas leading the escorted group, I’d guess they had about 150 bikes …

Third Annual Rod & Kustom BBQ Photos

On Saturday, the CrossMembers Hot Rod Fellowship held their Third Annual Rod & Kustom BBQ at the Restoration Life Christian Church in Lawndale. This was a fundraising event with a car and bike show, [outstanding] live music, and a barbecue. In addition there were a few vendors there and they held a raffle with 100% of the proceeds going to Hands of Hope: Mission Ethiopia. Hands of Hope: Mission Ethiopia provides water purification and well digging services as well as humanitarian relief to the Afar people of Ethiopia. They are attempting to raise $40,000 to purchase a new hydraulic well …

Mother’s Day at the Renaissance Pleasure Faire

Sunday was Mother’s Day and it was beautiful in Southern California. Since Tanya has been doing so much better and has been doing a lot of walking lately, I asked her if she wanted to go to the Renaissance Pleasure Faire at the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in Irwindale. At first she did not express much interest, but after our morning walk she indicated she wanted to go and we could take the bike. That was all I needed to hear; we were off in a flash. I have been gone to the Renaissance Faire several times in the …

Bartels’ Harley-Davidson 10th Annual Chili Cook-Off

These photos are from the Bartels’ 10th Chili Cook-Off, which was held Sunday, April 21 at Bartels’ Harley-Davidson in Marina del Rey, California. Now, to be honest, I am not completely sure if they have been doing this every year for 10 years, or if this was just their 10th one. I suspect it is pretty close to being an annual event. I know that by the time we got there, Lincoln Boulevard was lined with motorcycles on both sides of the street. I had gone to the Rose Bowl earlier that morning, and by the time we got out …

Celebrating Tanya’s birthday & health

Wednesday was Tanya’s birthday and since she has been feeling much better over that past couple of months, combined with the fact that she has been working pretty hard lately, we decided to take a couple days off to celebrate her birthday. We started off on Wednesday at Matsuyama Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar and had a couple friends join us. Anyone that has been following this blog for a while knows that we are huge fans of Matsuyama Sushi, so that was a good start to the day. We then decided to go out to Palos Verdes to see …

Meetup with the Original Sinners RC

My regular readers are probably aware that our business networking group, Business & Beer, recently joined Meetup.com in an attempt to build on the number of attendees at our weekly gatherings. For those unaware of what Meetup is, it is an online social media site that allows people with common interests to set up offline gatherings. In other words, a social media portal that actually encourages you to get away from Facebook and Twitter for a while. Whether you are looking for a business networking group or people to hunt butterflies with you, there is a good chance meetup.com can …

A visit to Craft Brewing Co and Claremont Craft Ales

I am usually the one trying to get someone to go for a bike ride and coming up with the destinations, so when my friend Phil asked me if I wanted to join him for a ride out to Chino I said yes and searched Google for a microbrewery in the area. When I woke up Saturday, I knew it was going to be a great day for a ride as it was already 70 at 9:00 AM. Since the person Phil wanted to visit in Chino was not home yet, we decided to visit some mutual friends in Lake …

Space Shuttle Endeavour arrives at LAX

These photos were taken this morning in El Segundo at Imperial Avenue and California Street, as we attempted to take some photos of the arrival of Space Shuttle Endeavour to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). We did not get there until a little after 10:00 AM and the crowds were already starting to grow; even though the shuttle was not scheduled to arrive until noon or a little after. Luckily, we brought the Limited so parking was not an issue so we cruised around a little to find a better spot for viewing, but decided our original choice was as …

Last ride of Summer 2012

These photos are from around Hollywood and Malibu. I have a couple friends that flew in from Paris on Friday to begin a week long motorcycle ride around California. Saturday morning I rode out to Hollywood to meet up with them and help them get started on their way. After cruising to the top of Mulholland Drive to take in a view of the Los Angeles area we headed out towards Topanga and worked our way to the Pacific Coast Highway, Hwy 1. We stopped to checked out the 9/11 Memorial at Pepperdine University then continued up north to Neptune’s …
