Urgent message to all LA County pet owners

I started blogging close to 15 years ago and I have never written an article that was this important or difficult to write; first, a little back-story. Pictured above are my daughter Jess with her two Golden Retrievers, Heidi and Lauren. While most dog owners will tell you how important their dogs are to them; Lauren and Heidi were truly special animals. They helped my daughter through a tough divorce and they were very therapeutic for her in her personal life as she works as a social worker specializing in investigating the worst of the worst child abuse cases. The …

One last Champagne Brunch at the Proud Bird

Last week my Facebook feed lit up with the news that the Proud Bird Restaurant, an aviation-themed restaurant by Los Angeles International Airport for 48 years, will be closing effective November 21, 2013. Apparently they are closing because the landlords, Los Angeles World Airports, want to increase the rent to such an extent that the restaurant cannot afford to stay open. As the Proud Bird and I go back about 35 years and Tanya and I had been talking about going to a champagne brunch anyway, we decided that we would go for one last brunch at the Proud Bird …

LA River Rally for Alternative 20

These photos were taken at Marsh Park in Los Angeles on Saturday morning at a rally for the Los Angeles River revitalization project; specifically Alternative 20. The event was attended by maybe 100 supporters that came to listen to LA City council members and check out exhibits showing the vision behind the revitalization of properties along the LA River corridor in accordance with the Los Angeles River Revitalization Master Plan. I became interested in this project due to my participation in a Kickstarter project for Dry River Brewing; as they envision having their brewery along the shores of the LA …

Photos from the Wounded Warrior Project benefit at LA Live

Monday evening was the opening night for the 1st Annual Rocktoberfest at LA Live, which began with a charity jam with the proceeds from this evenings function going to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Gene Simmons got on stage and played a set with the band along with several others. Wolfgang Puck provided the food for an Octoberfest meal with a California twist. There were lots of celebrities whose names I do not know, but James Gandolfini, Nikki Sixx and Bill Engvall were among those I did recognize. The true stars were the Wounded Warriors that attended tonight’s event. Besides …

1st Annual Rocktoberfest at LA Live, benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project

Back in April, when I made my first visit to Rock & Brews, I was walking around checking out the artwork decorating the place, I could not but help notice among all the rock and roll images was a lone banner on the center of the main wall. On it was the image of one soldier carrying another, obviously wounded soldier, with the words, “Wounded Warrior Project” below. Upon closer inspection I could see that it had been signed by many people from different branches of the armed forces. I made a mental note to investigate the Wounded Warrior Project …

New Years Eve at the Redondo Beach Castle

In 2012, GotBaddog.com is planning on focusing more time promoting charity fundraisers and local events. To start this off, Tanya and I attended the Lady of Magic fundraiser at the Redondo Beach Castle, in Redondo Beach, CA. The fundraiser was for the Midnight Mission, which is a homeless shelter in downtown Los Angeles. The Redondo Beach Castle is is owned by world-class magician and “Entertainers to the Stars” Sisuepahn Phila and Brian Gillis. It was a very nice party with live music provided by the Kevin McCarthy Concept, food, a DJ and some amazing magic. I did my best to …

Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band at Staples Center

I had the opportunity to see Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band at Staples Center last night. It was a great concert. I have been a Bob Seger fan since Ramblin Gamblin Man, which was around 1969. I have seen close to 100 live acts, but for some reason I never made it to a Seger concert. To say that I was looking forward to last night would be an understatement. The song I was looking forward to hearing performed live was Turn the Page. He waited until almost the end to play it, so I was getting a …

Holiday Fair at Staples Center

When we went to Staples last night, I got spun around and ended up parking by LA Live on 11th Street. To my surprise, they had the street blocked off and an old style carnival set up. I presumed it was some kind of Christmas carnival, but no one that worked there really knew what was going on. Even the security personnel said they had never seen anything like this before and that it had no name that they knew of. Google was of little help, so I think we will call it the GotBaddog Staples Holiday Fair until someone …

Christmas Party at Staples Center

Every year for the last three years, my friend Joe gets a couple suites at Staples Center and he invites a few dozen of his friends to come join him for a Christmas party while watching the Los Angeles Kings. It is always a great time with fun people, a visit from a few of the King’s Ice Crew, snacks and drinks. Sometimes the Kings win to make the event perfect. Well, the Kings got whipped by the Minnesota Wild last night, but luckily all the other ingredients remained so it was another successful Christmas party at Staples. Back to …

Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon Los Angeles 2011 photos

Today was the 2011 Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon in Los Angeles. Since my daughter and one of her friends were participating, I decided to get up early and head out to downtown Los Angeles to take some photos. The Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon series is a fundraiser for various charities, including ASPCA, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, TASK, St. Jude Hospital and several others. They have marathons around the country. Today’s marathon had about 10,000 participants and there were live bands set up every mile along the course as well as cheerleaders from local high schools. There was a …
