Asperatus and storm clouds

The other day, someone made a comment about a photo I had posted on Google+. It was of a cloud formation that I had seen in North Dakota or Montana. They informed me that the photo was of the newly named Asperatus variety. She sent me a link to a Youtube video and a website that is all about cloud appreciation. I was surprised that the clouds were something new because I saw them all across the country when I was following storms. I soon recognized that when I saw them, some very foul weather was to follow. I noticed …

Photos from Route 66, Missouri

These photos were taken on Route 66 in Missouri. This was on the way to Joplin, MO. I entered St Louis in the late afternoon, so it was not an ideal time to tour. I did find Jellystone Park though, so I had to make a quick stop. I wanted to find some local cuisine and a billboard directed me to Missouri Hick Bar-B-Q in Cuba, MO. Great food. Right next door was a newly renovated Wagon Wheel Motel, so I walked over there and got a room. Would have been better if Tanya was with me though. She would …

Photos from Meramec Caverns

After what can only be described as a thrilling evening in the Ozarks and southern Missouri, we spent the night in Lebanon, MO. We had found weather or it had found us, I am not sure. The first six photos in this set were taken within ninety seconds. Finding foul weather was going to be easier it seemed. A few miles east of Lebanon was Stanton, home of the Meramec Caverns. I had no idea what to expect, so I asked Tanya to Google it for me. She said it looked like some caves, but had a nice river to …

Stormy skies over Mount Vernon, MO

These photos are from a large storm I ran into on my way to Joplin. I had stopped at a rest stop about 50 miles east of Joplin and checked the weather report on the National Weather Service website. It looked like Joplin was getting hammered again and a storm was headed straight for me. When it cleared I continued on. When I hit Mount Vernon the skies became amazing, so I had to pull off the interstate and try to photograph it. The storm ended up circling over me. It made for a great photo op. Back to Storm …

Photos from Joplin, MO

These photos were taken on May 27, 2011 in Joplin, MO. I am going to jump forward a little on my photos since this is current events. I drove to Joplin today to see if Buddy could offer any comfort to the victims of their tornado and to donate some items I got from a waitress at Uncle Monkey’s in Illiopolis, IL and Tanya, along with a barbecue I happened to have with me. After spending some time at SMU with victims and volunteers, and dropping off the stuff with the Salvation Army, we took a drive through the area …

Photos From Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota

Beautiful Midwest Skies [adrotate group=”6″] The Drive From Kansas to South Dakota Woke up in Kansas City, KS and it looked like it rained in the few hours I slept. This was confirmed when I took Buddy out for his morning walk when it began pouring buckets, complete with lightning and thunder. I guess it was the fringe of the storm that caused all the tornadoes that touched down everywhere we had already traveled to. On the upside, there were some pretty nice cloud formations that made for some nice photographs. We blasted over to Omaha, NE and had one …

Fun times in Hannibal, MO

Photos From Illinois, Missouri and Kansas [adrotate group=”6″] Fun Visit To Hannibal, MO Woke up in Springfield, IL to a very blustery day. We decided to head to Hannibal, MO to take a couple pictures and move on. That lasted several hours. Very cool little town, and if you appreciate Mark Twain like I do, it is a total kick. My great-grandfather was born there and Tanya had to wonder if they ever crossed paths. We then took a ride to Pershing State Park and eventually to Kansas City, KS. We did stop in Kansas City, MO because we wanted …

Photos From Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky and Illinois

Photos From Road Trip Day 10 [adrotate group=”6″] Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky and Illinois Day 10 of our road trip started off in Jonesboro, AR after spending a lovely evening with some friends that live there. We really did not know where we were going to travel to today, but as we were less than 600 miles from Tanya’s home, there was a good chance that this would be the last day of this leg of the trip. We ended up headed to Missouri and the Mississippi River. We took some side roads and drove along a levee which gave us …
