Photos of the Challenge Cup at the Hilton

These photos are from the 2011 Baker to Vegas, 27th Annual Challenge Cup Relay festivities at the Hilton. The afternoon started off with Unofficial Results being posted and the adjustment of point calculations beginning. There were penalty assessments for various infractions, each being assigned a time deduction value. The scene outside reminded me of seeing a bunch of students gathered around the bulletin board to find their test scores. Various groups had booths raising funds and advertising. There were a couple celebrity sightings, ala Forrest Griffin, who was kind enough to pose for photos with fans. There was an awards …

Photos from the 27th Annual Challenge Cup Relay

This weekend was the 27th Annual Challenge Cup, Baker to Vegas Relay. Law enforcement personnel from around the world take part in this event which is a 120 mile run from Baker, CA to Pahrump, NV and then on to Las Vegas. From what I have seen and been told, there are about 6,000 runners involved. I do not know if you have ever driven this route, but while being a pretty drive, I can not imagine running for fun through this part of the desert. GotBaddog.com sponsored the Riverside Sheriff’s Correctional Unit team. It was their first time as …

The Road To Sturgis

Photos From Day One of the Ride To Sturgis [adrotate group=”6″] Torrance, CA to Grand Junction, CO 2010 was the 70th Annual Black Hills Rally & Races in Sturgis, S.D. The last time I went was in 2006 and I swore I would never return due to the amount of people that were now attending. If they all came on motorcycles instead of dragging them along on trailers it would not be so bad, but Sturgis just was not built for one million people. Since I got a new bike, and the price of gas went up, I figured it …

A 600 mile day

It has been a very long time since I rode a motorcycle 600 miles in one day, but I did it Tuesday. Rock Springs, WY to Las Vegas, NV. The temps shot up over 115 once I got south of St. George, UT. I had made plans with some friends for dinner in Vegas, so I had to push on. That made it 1,100 miles in two days. Needless to say, I was pretty beat by the time I arrived, which is my excuse for the late posting. My picture of the day for day 229 is me after 600 …

Photos From Lake Tahoe and US 395

Pictures from along Lake Tahoe and US 395 [adrotate group=”6″] California and Nevada We spent the day driving around Lake Tahoe. It is amazing how long that can take when you are stopping as frequently as we do for picture taking. Tahoe was a bit chilly, but amazingly beautiful. After circling the lake we headed towards Yosemite. Unfortunately, Highway 120 was closed, so we had to figure out what to do about that. After driving back and forth on the 395 as we changed destinations, we decided to just head south and see what we see. That policy has worked …

Photos from Nevada

Nevada Photos [adrotate group=”6″] Wendover to South Lake Tahoe We left West Wendover, NV and headed west to Lake Tahoe. While it was a little chilly, it was nothing compared to the last several days. Since it was Cinco de Mayo, we decided to find a Mexican restaurant along the way for dinner. We landed in Sparks, NV at Cantina Los Tres Hombres. The food was tasty and they had a wide selection of tequilas to choose from. Alexis, our server made a couple nice suggestions and we left satisfied. From there it was a relatively short drive to South …

Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse

In 2006, Tanya and I hosted a dinner for some clients and friends in Las Vegas, NV. Neither of us really knew where we should hold this dinner, but knew we wanted an upscale steakhouse. I asked around and many times the suggestion of Smith & Wollensky came up. We checked out their menu online and decided that we would try it out. Since the dinner was going to be attended by 25-30 people, we had to prepare a menu ahead of time. I love crab cake but Tanya never had it before. She likes mac & cheese and that …

Valley of Fire

Valley of Fire [adrotate group=”6″] Amazing landscape in the Nevada desert My girlfriend and I were scheduled to be in Vegas longer than we needed to be so we decided to spend a day in the Mojave Desert, taking pictures. We have a good friend that is a professional photographer and he agreed to show us some of his favorite spots in the Valley of Fire State Park. He also gave us some photography tips that we put to good use, immediately. This place has some amazing rock formations and landscapes that were enhanced by the winter skies. There was …
