Memorial Day Weekend at South Coast Botanic Garden

Saturday was the beginning of the long 2013 Memorial Day weekend and since Tanya has been working pretty hard getting her new book, Faces of Juicing, ready for publishing, we decided to take advantage of the great weather and pay another visit to the South Coast Botanic Garden on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The South Coast Botanic Garden is huge with over 40,000 trees and 200,000 plants, so we are able to return several times a year and it always looks at least a little different as different plants bloom at different times of the year. There are several species …

Celebrating one month pain free

Back in August I mentioned that Tanya had started using a new drug to combat the pain from her Rheumatoid Autoimmune Disease (aka RAD or RA) she has been living with since 2003. She had been using Enbrel for quite some time, but it did not seem to be doing any good, so Cimzia was suggested. These kinds of drugs usually take a while to get into her system before they start working, and she was in a terrible amount of pain, so her new Rheumatologist started her on various sleeping pills and anti-anxiety pills; but nothing seemed to help. …

Is it Spring yet?

The almanac says spring does not begin this year until March 20; but with the weather we have been having around here, you could have surprised me. It was almost summer-like around here over the weekend. Since Tanya’s RA/RAD has not been bothering her lately, she has wanted to take advantage of the great weather and the lack of pain by spending more time outside. Sunday we took another trip to the South Coast Botanic Garden on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in Palos Verdes Estates. The South Coast Botanic Garden is 87 acres of trees, flowers, birds, lizards, squirrels and …

South Coast Botanic Garden, Palos Verdes

These photos were taken last week at the South Coast Botanic Gardens. Every once in a while we need to get out of the house with nothing that has to be done, and Tanya really enjoys taking photos of flowers; so we will head off to somewhere like the South Coast Botanic Garden. The place is huge and after two visits there, we have just scratched the surface. Of course, with Tanya’s limitations due to her Rheumatoid Autoimmune Disease, we don’t usually get more than an hour or two there. It was a nice day; she got some sunshine and …

South Coast Botanic Garden, Palos Verdes Estates

These photos were taken at the South Coast Botanic Garden on June 29, 2012. I mentioned a couple weeks ago that we had purchased a membership to the South Coast Botanic Garden primarily because it gave us access to 250 other arboretums; we then visited Descanso Gardens in La Canada using the card. Yesterday we decided to see what was in our own back yard. The place is huge, about 87 acres. We had no idea how big it was until we looked at a map on the way out. We barely scratched the surface. We will definitely be back. …
