Photos of the Mooneye’s Christmas Drags 2010

Mooneye’s Christmas Drags 2010 Irwindale, CA As a part of the Mooneye’s Christmas Party and car show, they also had drag races on the 1/8 mile strip. The best part of this event was that all the racers were pre-1969 vehicles only. They had some rail dragsters on display and they fired them up, but the track is not really long enough for that kind of action. It was fun watching them and practicing my action photography.

Mooneye’s Christmas Party 2010 Irwindale, CA Last year, a friend of mine from up north came into town for the Mooneye’s Christmas Party Car Show and Drags. As it was cold and raining, I did not bother going out there. I had heard that there was a decent turnout, but the rain put a damper on things, literally. This year was exactly the opposite. It was a beautiful 80 degree day out at Irwindale. There were loads of nice bikes and cars and lots of people. It was a great day to be in Southern California.

Photos From Trump National Golf Club

A December Day at the Shore Rancho Palos Verdes, CA A few weeks ago, while walking Buddy I met a guy that had recently moved into the area. We were discussing places to walk our dogs and he mentioned a dog beach out by the Trump National Golf Club on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. This was news to me as I thought the closest dog friendly beach to me was down in Long Beach. Today, Tanya, Buddy and I took a drive up there to check it out. The Trump National Golf Club looks amazing, but for $250 million, I …

Photos of the SFV Big Red Machine Annual Toy Run

Big Red Machine Annual Toy Run Chatsworth, CA – December 5, 2010 A Christmas tradition I have participated in for as long as I can remember is attending motorcycle toy runs. I have some great memories from them and both of my kids were regular attendees. Heck, my daughter was nursed under the shade of a Harley-Davidson at a toy run back in 1982. Since bikers always get a bad rap, I feel it is my responsibility to go to at least one a year. Today, the SFV Big Red Machine held their annual toy run to benefit needy children. …

Photos of the Movember Gala Parte Los Angeles

Movember Gala Parte Los Angeles Avalon Hollywood, December 3, 2010 My regular readers certainly know that I was a participant in the Movember Foundation’s campaign last month to raise funds for and awareness of mens health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer. Since I had 40 years of facial hair, I started off by having a fundraiser to get me to shave it all off. In about 45 hours my goal of $1,000 was met and I shaved it all for Movember. Beginning November 1, I started growing the moustache back. As a thank you to all the participants, gala …

Photos From Hockey Night At Staples Center

Photos From Hockey Night Los Angeles Kings vs Florida Panthers Last night, Tanya and I went to a Christmas party that a friend of ours has thrown for the last couple of years at the Staples Center. Since Tanya and I have yet to spend a Christmas together, we dress up a bit to get in the festive mood, and use this as our Christmas celebration. The Los Angeles Kings hosted the Florida Panthers, and defeated them 3-2. The Kings were down 2-1 in the second period, so it is not like it was an easy win. Everyone had a …

Photos of a Southern California Day

Saturday Afternoon Ride Escondido to Seal Beach, CA It has been a long time since I went on a decent bike ride, so I was more than due for today’s ride. My friend Phil wanted to come along, but he only wanted to do a short ride to Cook’s Corner, about 50 miles from here. I rode my Limited and he was on his Glide. As soon as we got off the freeway he suggested we go to Stone Brewery instead. I was not real happy the last time we went there, but since it was 50 miles further I …

Photos From the High Desert

Desert Riding on Black Friday Spangler Camp – Cantil, CA It is Black Friday and the last thing I want to do is go shopping. Fortunately, some friends of mine went out to the desert to go dirt bike riding and invited me to come on out. I did not really take a lot of convincing. I loaded up the Charger with Buddy and my Canon and headed north on CA Hwy 14 out past Mojave to Cantil and an area known to the desert bike riders as Spangler Camp. It was sunny but brisk, but nothing a campfire or …

Photos Of the California Coastline

Photos From CA Hwy 1 Santa Cruz to San Simeon After a fun evening in Santa Cruz we grabbed some coffee and headed down CA Hwy 1. It was another spectacular day and it held promise for some great coastline photos. We were not disappointed. The CA coastline actually faces north, south and west so depending on the direction faced the scenery can be quite different, from calm blue coves to tumultuous waves crashing on the gigantic rocks that are prevalent along the coast in that area. If you have never driven along the California coastline, you owe it to …

Photos of Marin and Santa Cruz

Photos From Marin County and Santa Cruz Tiburon, Pt Reyes and Santa Cruz We drove a couple hundred miles back to Novato on Saturday so we could have brunch with my aunt and uncle on Sunday. I have not spent enough time with either in far too long, so it was nice having a few hours. The weather kept getting better. I could not believe it. We went for brunch at a nice outdoor cafe on the water in Tiburon. Afterward, we drove to Point Reyes then out by the Marin Headlands to take a few more photos. By the …
