The Drive from Eureka to Crescent City Photos From US Hwy 101 Between Eureka and Crescent City We woke up in Eureka on Saturday morning. My good friend, Cathy, had the day off so she joined Tanya, Buddy and me as we ventured further north to take some more photos. We went up into the Redwoods National Forest then to Crescent City before stopping in Trinidad for an early dinner. It was a fairly overcast day and we did get a little rain, but hey, it is November, and we were pretty far north.

Photos From the California Redwoods Our Drive To Humboldt Redwoods State Park Tanya arrived on Wednesday evening. Thursday morning we decided we wanted to go somewhere. We thought about Utah, but for some reason the weather appeared to be nicer up north, so we decided to head up to see the Redwoods. We spent Thursday evening in Novato so we had nothing but nice scenery all day Friday. The weather was amazing. We ended the day in Eureka where we spent then evening with a dear friend.

Even though we started off in Ripon, making all the stops we made turned a four hour drive into a 10 hour drive. We ended up in Bakersfield around 7:00 or 8:00 PM and we were hungry. Every restaurant that Tanya found on her Android was closed or no longer existed. Then we found Sandrinis. Photos From California Highway 99 Merced, CA As we approached the border of Merced, the first thing I noticed was the red light of a Merced Sheriff’s patrol car on the frontage road along Hwy 99. As we got closer I noticed that there were three squad cars all dealing with one person on a bicycle. I do not know if this is a sign of extreme boredom on a Sunday afternoon or just an excessive amount of resources being used. California Highway 99 – Atwater

Photos From California Highway 99 Atwater, CA Atwater was a nice little town with many tree lined streets. Of the communities we visited, Atwater was one of Tanya’s two favorites. There definitely seemed to be a lot of civic pride and once downtown there is no question where you are with Atwater Trophy, Atwater Electronics, Atwater this and Atwater that. I would say that the streets were empty, but compared to some of the places north of here, it was full of hustle and bustle.

It was pretty obvious that Delhi was having its problems with many roadside businesses shut down. It was definitely “small town.”

Photos From California Highway 99 Turlock, CA The homes in the part of Turlock we saw were all pretty new. We did manage to go inside one, so naturally I took pictures. It was a very nice home. Some of these places start blending into each other, but Turlock was one of the nicer communities we visited. A lot of new homes for sale up there, but they did pack the houses close together.

To be fair, Hughson is not really on Highway 99, but it was a prospective location for my friends to move to, so we took the six or seven mile detour. On the way, we came across the Resendiz Family Fruit Barn which was decorated for Halloween and had pony rides and tasty treats to give families a nice destination for a Sunday afternoon. Photos From California Highway 99 Ceres, CA The next town we stopped in was Ceres, CA. It borders Modesto and if it were not for the sign saying we had entered Ceres, I doubt I would have noticed a difference. Ceres seemed to be a clean, quiet town with nothing particularly remarkable about it. Lots of orchards and fields for crops. It was Sunday and rainy, so not sure if that was the reason why it seemed to be so quiet.
