California Highway 99 – Modesto

Photos From California Highway 99 Modesto, CA A few miles south of Ripon we came into Modesto, the first of the prospective towns my friends from Arkansas considered moving to. I always say that you can tell a lot about a place by the motorcycles in it, so a stop at the Harley-Davidson dealership made sense. For those of you that feel I am not giving an accurate portrayal of Modesto or any of the other towns in this CA Hwy 99 series, these photos are only meant to give a first impression of these places, from an unbiased perspective. …

California Highway 99 – Ripon

Photos From California Highway 99 Ripon, CA I have a couple friends that are moving to Central California from Arkansas in a couple of weeks. They have never visited any of the towns they are considering moving to. Since Tanya and I happened to be passing through the area, we decided that we would do a quick pictorial of each of the possible locations they provided to me. Since we spent Saturday evening in Ripon, we decided to start the pictorial there. It just so happens that my great-grandmother on my father’s side was a Ripon, and since I had …

Photos from Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park Photos From the High Sierra After spending the day in Sequoia National Park we drove to Oakhurst to spend the evening. It was a really nice place to wake up to. I took Buddy out for his morning walk, then after bringing him back to the room, I went for another walk with my camera. After a small breakfast we headed up Highway 41 to Yosemite. I can not believe I had never been before. The one thing I noticed was that the views looked almost fake because they were so beautiful. It was like a pull …

Photos from Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks

Photos from Sequoia and Kings Canyon Southern Sierra Nevada National Parks I do not really have a lot to say. Tanya was in town and there was nothing on TV. I asked Buddy if he wanted to go for a ride and he jumped in the car and waited for two hours, so we went for a drive. We ended up at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. It was a lot different there today than when I went to Sequoia last May. Zero snow and the rivers were way down. I suppose that is only natural and next May …

Photos From Our Final Day in Dublin

Our Final Day in Ireland Photos From Dublin I must apologize to all the people we met in Dublin on our final day there. I had assured you the photos I took would be up a couple weeks ago, but I failed. To be honest, I forgot that I had these to do and as soon as we left Dublin we headed to Barcelona then Amsterdam. I have no excuse except that we must have been having too much fun. Anyway, our last day in Dublin was a very spiritual day as we visited Christ Church and St Patrick’s Cathedral, …

Photos from Dublin’s All Ireland Football Finals

All Ireland Football Finals Photos From Dublin Sunday was the GAA’s All Ireland Football finals at Croke Park, featuring Cork vs Down. About 83,000 people attended, and it made for a definite party atmosphere in the Dublin area. Since we did not have tickets to the game, we started the day off by visiting Trinity College and checking out the Book of Kells. Although no photos were allowed in the library it was very cool and if you ever make it to Dublin, it is worth the visit. After the game started, we walked over to Croke Park and got …

Photos from the Guinness Brewery

Photos From Around Dublin A Visit To the Guinness Brewery and More Saturday, we got a late start, due to my error with the alarm clock. Oh well, guess we needed the sleep. After grabbing some coffee and a bagel at the local O’Brien’s we arranged for transportation and sights to see. We started off at the Guinness Brewery where we got a couple pints and learned to pour the perfect pint. We then jumped on a tour bus and kept our eyes peeled for somewhere to eat. After we finished dinner we walked back to the B&B we are …

Photos of the ride from Killarney to Dublin

Photos From Killarney to Dublin, Ireland The Third Day of Our Tour of Ireland On Thursday, we received notice that a cruise ship was coming into Cork on Friday morning. This meant that upwards of 20 tour buses would be descending on the Blarney Castle, which was to be our first stop Friday morning. Our driver, Don, decided that in order to beat the crowds we would hit the road at 8:00 AM. Another early day. It turned out to be a great idea as there was only one other tour bus there when we arrived. After a couple hours …

Photos of Galway to Killarney

Galway to Killarney Photos From Day Two of Our Tour of Ireland Thursday was day two of our tour of western and southern Ireland. We started the day in Galway and ended in Killarney. Along the way we saw some amazing places, the highlight of which was the Cliffs of Moher. Everyone has heard of the seven wonders of the ancient world, with the Great Pyramid of Giza, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Statue of Zeus at Olympia, et cetera. There is a new competition for the seven wonders of nature of which the Cliffs of Moher is one of the …

Photos of the Road From Dublin to Galway

Photos From Dublin to Galway Day Three in Ireland Wednesday morning, Tanya and I packed up and walked a few doors down to the local Paddy Wagon Tours office to begin a three day tour of western and southern Ireland. Day one was a ride across the island, ending up in Galway. There is a lot of history in this country. I think it would pretty difficult to not feel a certain amount of pride in being Irish once you have visited here and learned more of Ireland’s past. I know I came away with even more pride in being …
