Cimzia: Is it working?

As an RAD Lovegiver, the most frustrating thing is watching the woman I love be in so much pain and not being able to do a damned thing about it. On top of that, the medical professionals seem to be guessing at what drug combinations to use to alleviate that pain. I guess that is why they call it practicing medicine. This past week or two has truly sucked. As an outsider, it appears to me that the drug combination Tanya is currently on is doing very little to benefit her. I have been looking through old photos of trips …

Tests, tests and more tests

When I last posted about meeting Tanya’s new rheumatologist, I mentioned that Tanya had been referred to an endocrinologist to investigate some breathing issues she has at times. Dr. Ishimori was concerned that perhaps there is more than just the Rheumatoid Autoimmune Disease (RAD/RA)at work here. Naturally, they have to schedule all tests to be out at Cedars-Sinai, which means fighting traffic for an hour, then trying to find a parking spot followed up by trying to find out where to go to have the testing done. While we left the house with what should have been plenty of time, …

Business N Beer comes to El Segundo Brewing Company

Last night, we brought Business N Beer to El Segundo Brewing Company. El Segundo Brewing Company, or ESBC, specializes in ales and for my money, brews one of the finest IPA’s in the South Bay with their White Dog IPA. As the photos show, this was the smallest turnout we have had since we started last month; however since ESBC is also the furthest away from Torrance and most of our members seem to be from the Torrance area I am not too surprised. On the upside, even though it was our smallest group, we still had a first timer …

Business N Beer at The Rockefeller, Hermosa Beach

These photos are from our latest Business N Beer gathering; which was held last night at The Rockefeller in Hermosa Beach. The Rockefeller, for those unfamiliar, is a fine gastropub located on Pier Avenue. The term gastropub seems to be an up and coming catch-phrase and is frequently tossed around a little too liberally. Serving a few beers on tap with half of them being mainstream domestic brews like Budweiser or Coors and offering burgers and fries for food, does not a gastropub make. A gastropub serves upscale foods and craft beers. There are a few real gastropubs in the …

Bobber Bike Night at Bartels’ Harley-Davidson

These photos were taken at Bartels’ Harley-Davidson last night at their Bike Night. Since many riders are off at Sturgis, Bartels’ had their own mini-Sturgis in their parking lot; which if you closed your eyes and imagined, it was pretty close. There was live music, pretty girls, food, too many cars and it was hot (well, in the beginning; it was a nice ride home. The theme of the evening was to show off your bobber. While my 2006 Night Train is not exactly a bobber in the truest sense of the word, I entered into the contest anyway. I …

Kiss a Gay Day at Chick-fil-A, Torrance

What if they threw a protest and nobody came? Well, apparently that is what happened with Kiss a Gay Day that was supposed to be happening at Chick-fil-A locations around the country. I went back to the Torrance location that had literally thousands of supporters on Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day that was held on Wednesday, and the only sign of anything gay was some vandalism done by a coward in the night. As I mentioned the other day, I walk past the Hawthorne and 182nd Street location daily. This morning, when I was walking the dogs, I noticed that there were …

Business N Beer at Strand Brewing Co, Torrance

These photos were taken at our latest Business N Beer get-together that we had last night at Strand Brewing Company in Torrance. As yesterday was International IPA Day, it was fitting that we met at a micro brewery that provides such nice ales, and in particular, a couple very nice IPA’s. The group was a little smaller than last week, but several people that were at Strand Brewing anyway worked their way over to our group to find out more about Business N Beer. Our host even mentioned how he had noticed people coming over to check us out; and …

Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day brings long lines to Torrance location

These photos were taken Wednesday over the course of the day, which was designated Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, at the Chick-fil-A located at 182nd and Hawthorne. I am going to guess that if you are reading my blog you probably heard about the controversy, and you have your own feelings on the subject. It really has no affect on my life as I don’t eat there anyway. They don’t show up on my fast food radar. Anyhow, I do have some observations as the most unbiased reporter you know. I walk by the place at least once every day that I …

Bottle Share at Sophie’s Place

These photos are from a Bottle Share we attended yesterday at Sophie’s Place in Redondo Beach. The event was put on by Adam’s Fine Wine and Liquor which is also located in Redondo Beach. I became aware of the event as I happened to meet one of the owners of Sophie’s Place a couple weeks ago, one thing lead to another and we linked up via Facebook. When I first heard about the event it sounded interesting enough, but I had never attended a bottle share before so I was not sure what to expect. As the event date drew …

Business N Beer at Monkish Brewing Company, Torrance

These photos are from our third Business N Beer gathering that we had last night at Monkish Brewing Company, in Torrance. We had a very nice group of people that showed up and it was our biggest group to date with about 17 or 18 attendees. The interesting thing, for me anyway, was that the group consisted of a few people from our first gathering at Select Beer Store; there were a few from our gathering last week at Abigaile and there were many people that were attending for the first time. As I looked around at our group it …
