Meetup with the Original Sinners RC

My regular readers are probably aware that our business networking group, Business & Beer, recently joined Meetup.com in an attempt to build on the number of attendees at our weekly gatherings. For those unaware of what Meetup is, it is an online social media site that allows people with common interests to set up offline gatherings. In other words, a social media portal that actually encourages you to get away from Facebook and Twitter for a while. Whether you are looking for a business networking group or people to hunt butterflies with you, there is a good chance meetup.com can help you. When I was perusing the many Meetup groups in my area, I came across the Original Sinners RC (Riding Club), which is a subsidiary of the Original Sinners MC (Motorcycle Club).

I had to ask how a motorcycle club found its way to using social media and discovered that a few of the Original Sinners previously joined another group of motorcycle enthusiasts via Meetup. For some reason that I do not recall, these few splintered off and formed the Original Sinners MC. They then decided to utilize Meetup to find additional people to ride with and hopefully find new members to the actual club. Continue reading

A visit to Craft Brewing Co and Claremont Craft Ales

I am usually the one trying to get someone to go for a bike ride and coming up with the destinations, so when my friend Phil asked me if I wanted to join him for a ride out to Chino I said yes and searched Google for a microbrewery in the area. When I woke up Saturday, I knew it was going to be a great day for a ride as it was already 70 at 9:00 AM.

Since the person Phil wanted to visit in Chino was not home yet, we decided to visit some mutual friends in Lake Elsinore to kill a little time. While we were visiting I happened to ask if they had tried out Craft Brewing Company since I knew it had to be pretty close. As it turns out, it was about a mile away and our friends were unaware of their existence; so we all headed over there. As it turned out, Sebring’s Catering out of Temecula was there serving chicken wraps, meatballs and penne salad, so we had some beer and food before heading out to Chino. Continue reading

Space Shuttle Endeavour arrives at LAX

These photos were taken this morning in El Segundo at Imperial Avenue and California Street, as we attempted to take some photos of the arrival of Space Shuttle Endeavour to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). We did not get there until a little after 10:00 AM and the crowds were already starting to grow; even though the shuttle was not scheduled to arrive until noon or a little after. Luckily, we brought the Limited so parking was not an issue so we cruised around a little to find a better spot for viewing, but decided our original choice was as good as it would get.

We could see the Endeavour and its fighter escort as it headed towards downtown Los Angeles and Orange County; but it was pretty far away. If you look closely you can see them in the distance in some of the earlier photos. The shuttle then returned and did two very slow and low flybys before returning for its final landing. I have to admit, it was pretty exciting watching it come to rest across the street and the entire crowd of several thousand felt the same way. Continue reading
