Photos from Business & Beer at Monkish Brewing Co, Torrance

These photos are from our most recent visit to Monkish Brewing Company in Torrance, with our Business & Beer networking group. Monkish Brewing is a microbrewery in Torrance that specializes in Belgian style ales, with usually seven or eight different options available. Even though the weather was a little iffy with it being chilly and some rain we still had a nice turnout. It seems that Business & Beer is growing to the point that our minimum size is now 10-15 when not too long ago our smaller groups might have only eight. It will be interesting to see where we are at in a couple more months.

Next week, Business & Beer will return to The Brewery at Abigaile in Hermosa Beach. Pretty much everyone in our group and my regular readers know that as far as I am concerned, the Brewery at Abigaile sets the bar as far as brewpubs are concerned. Between their brewmaster Brian and Chef Tin, there is nothing not to love about the place; the only thing keeping me from going there more frequently is that it is not within walking distance. I encourage everyone in the South Bay to pay them a visit at least once. If you want to try some outstanding brews, order a flight; I do not think you will be disappointed.

I want to, once again, invite all small business owners in the South Bay area to consider joining our networking group, Business & Beer. Even if you do not own the business, but networking is an essential part of how you do business, Business & Beer is there for you; especially if you enjoy craft beers. We meet every Thursday evening at a different microbrewery, brewpub or gastropub in the South Bay. We have no rules, dues or mandatory meetings. You do not need a special invitation, just bring your business cards and meet up with us. Everyone in our group is friendly and we all want to meet you. You can find our upcoming schedule and get on our mailing list at BusinessNBeer.com; you can also Like Us on Facebook where we will keep you abreast of meetings and special events. Continue reading

Business & Beer at Monkish Brewing, Torrance

Two months ago, Tanya and I came up with the idea of Business & Beer; a networking group for small business owners in the South Bay that would meet after normal working hours and we would support the local craft brewers in the area. Since we became familiar with many of the brewpubs and gastropubs in the South Bay area, we decided to include them in the rotation. Last night we had our ninth get-together and our first return to one of our original hosts, Monkish Brewing Company in Torrance, CA. Monkish Brewing is a relatively new micro brewery in Torrance that specializes in Belgian style beer and ales.

Even though we had to compete with the Democratic National Convention and Obama’s acceptance speech we still had a nice turnout and even had a couple people that just happened to be at Monkish while we were setting up come over to learn more about Business N Beer. They both ended up sticking around for a while. I have been asking around and it appears some of you are doing business together now, so Business & Beer is accomplishing what it set out to do.

Next week we will return to Strand Brewing Company in Torrance. Strand Brewing is a great local brewer that specializes in ales with just the right amount of hoppiness. We hope to see you there. Be sure to follow Business N Beer on Facebook; there you can learn about our upcoming event at Oktoberfest at Alpine Village. Free for all Business & Beer members. Continue reading

Business N Beer at Monkish Brewing Company, Torrance

These photos are from our third Business N Beer gathering that we had last night at Monkish Brewing Company, in Torrance. We had a very nice group of people that showed up and it was our biggest group to date with about 17 or 18 attendees. The interesting thing, for me anyway, was that the group consisted of a few people from our first gathering at Select Beer Store; there were a few from our gathering last week at Abigaile and there were many people that were attending for the first time. As I looked around at our group it was hard to believe that most of the people did not know each other prior to their coming to Business N Beer. It was pretty cool to watch and listen as there was business being done.

It seemed that most of the attendees had never been to Monkish Brewing before, so I was quite happy to introduce them to the wonderful Belgian style ales and beer that Henry produces and it seemed most of the newcomers opted for taster flights, which is a great idea. Especially when trying a beer for the first time. With eight different offerings, Henry probably has something you will like. I like them all.

So, next week, August 2, we will be at Strand Brewing Company, also in Torrance. Strand Brewing is another micro brewery, which means they do not serve food. You can bring outside food in or have it delivered. I hope to see you there, and if you “Like” our Facebook page or sign up for our email list on BusinessNBeer.com you can keep in the loop for our upcoming events. If you enjoy craft beer and networking with other business owners, you are going to really enjoy our gatherings. I promise. Continue reading
