San Pedro Brewing Company and Smog City Brewing

Friday was day five of the 8th Annual American Craft Beer Week (ACBW) and I was able to visit two gold medal winners that are both located in the South Bay; San Pedro Brewing Company from San Pedro and Smog City Brewing Company (2012 Great American Beer Festival) in Torrance. San Pedro Brewing Company is a brewpub that has been in San Pedro for 13 years and currently has seven beers brewed on location. Smog City Brewing Company just moved to Torrance and is having their grand opening today, May 18 from 12-8 PM. Both locations have a wide variety …

American Craft Beer Week at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing

Tuesday was day two of the 2013 American Craft Beer Week (ACBW). Last year, I spent the 7th Annual ACBW going out and discovering as many different American craft beers that I was unfamiliar with. This year, my goal is to visit award winning craft brewers in our area. I am using the list of winners from prior Great American Beer Festivals (GABF); luckily, we have several that are pretty close to us. For day two we headed out to Long Beach and visited Beachwood BBQ & Brewing, a nice brewpub that not only brews award winning beers, but their …

Business & Beer Meetup at Abigaile

These photos are from our Business and Beer gathering with Meetup last Thursday, May 9, at The Brewery at Abigaile. I cannot really say why I am just now getting around to posting the photos, other than it was a busy weekend. The Brewery at Abigaile is my favorite brewpub and is located in Hermosa Beach. I was introduced to them one year ago and became an instant fan. Last Thursday was a special evening at Abigaile in that they were doing a food pairing with Beachwood BBQ & Brewing from Long Beach and they are another of my favorite …

A visit to Babe’s Bar-B-Que Brewhouse & Alpine Beer Co

Last week I had a trade show to photograph out in the Phoenix, AZ area, so I had an opportunity to visit a couple brewpubs during my travels. We decided to leave on Tuesday evening and drive out to Indio to get out of the city and have an easier drive into Tempe the next day. We set our sights on Babe’s Bar-B-Que & Brewhouse in Rancho Mirage. To be honest, we targeted Babe’s for their peach pie; I had completely forgotten they were a brewpub. Naturally I got a flight, and each selection seemed perfectly suited for the desert. …

The Brewery at Abigaile hosts another Business N Beer

Last night we had another Business & Beer, this time returning to my favorite brewpub, The Brewery at Abigaile in Hermosa Beach. This was our first meetup in two weeks, and the first since Lent started, so I am not sure how much this combination contributed to our smaller than normal turnout. That is okay, those of us that came out had a good time and it gave us time to get to know each other more. If you live or work in the South Bay area and enjoy networking while enjoying a local craft beer, you should look into …

Photos from the Abigaile One Year Anniversary Party

These photos are from the Abigaile 1st Anniversary & Southbay Magazine Issue Release party which was held last night at Abigaile in Hermosa Beach. I have to admit, it seems like I have been going to Abigaile longer than that, but the fact of the matter is that we did not even discover Abigaile and the Brewery at Abigaile until last May during American Craft Beer Week. We became instant fans of not only the fine brews turned out by Brewmaster Brian Brewer, but we found the food creations of Chef Tin to be equally worth returning for. Of course, …

Simi, Smell Me, Taste Me Sunday

These photos were taken Sunday at Enegren Brewing Company in Moorpark, CA and Lab Brewing Company in Agoura Hills, CA. A few days ago I was at El Segundo Brewing Company and was introduced to Joe Nascenzi, one of the owners of Enegren Brewing Co., a microbrewery in Moorpark, CA. After talking with him for a while, and hearing what kind of beers they were brewing over there, I knew that I had to head out there with Tanya. While I am a definite hophead, Tanya is more into saisons, porters and stouts. When Joe told me about their oatmeal …

Business N Beer returns to Abigaile

These photos are from the week 19 meeting of Business & Beer which was held at The Brewery at Abigaile in Hermosa Beach. The Brewery at Abigaile is my favorite brewpub and has one of the best varieties of in-house brewed beers of any of the local South Bay breweries. It was a cold and damp evening so the attendance level was down a little but the enthusiasm of those that did attend did not wane. People that a couple months ago were strangers are now friends, or at the least, friendly acquaintances. That is what networking and Business & …

Beachwood BBQ & Brewing One Year Anniversary Party

These photos were taken Saturday at the Beachwood BBQ & Brewing One Year Anniversary Celebration, which was held at their Long Beach location on E. 3rd Street in Long Beach, CA. You might recall that I made my first visit to Beachwood Brewing a couple weeks ago. During that visit we were impressed enough with their home brews that we brought a growler of Mandarin Dream home with us, with the intent of returning for the one year celebration. It was a good idea. I remember being impressed that Beachwood was only one year old, yet had nine different brews …
