Photos from the Abigaile One Year Anniversary Party

These photos are from the Abigaile 1st Anniversary & Southbay Magazine Issue Release party which was held last night at Abigaile in Hermosa Beach. I have to admit, it seems like I have been going to Abigaile longer than that, but the fact of the matter is that we did not even discover Abigaile and the Brewery at Abigaile until last May during American Craft Beer Week. We became instant fans of not only the fine brews turned out by Brewmaster Brian Brewer, but we found the food creations of Chef Tin to be equally worth returning for. Of course, I would be remiss in not acknowledging the positive attitude and genuine thankfulness for the support of their customers displayed by owner Jed Sanford that is echoed by all their employees.

This thankfulness was shown once again at the One Year Anniversary party which included free food and beer tastings for everyone that could get in. We have attended a few of these events and they are always packed, for good reason. The food tastings are usually items that are not found on the regular food menu and the featured beers are always amazing. Last night was the official release of Brian’s first anniversary double IPA, the 001 (Double-Oh One); I know I am not alone in saying it is one of his best double IPAs to date. I can’t wait to try the 002, next year.

Congratulations to Jed, Brian, Chef Tin and everyone involved with Abigaile and the Brewery at Abigaile. You have done well in your first year and you have created a nice following. Continue reading

Simi, Smell Me, Taste Me Sunday

These photos were taken Sunday at Enegren Brewing Company in Moorpark, CA and Lab Brewing Company in Agoura Hills, CA. A few days ago I was at El Segundo Brewing Company and was introduced to Joe Nascenzi, one of the owners of Enegren Brewing Co., a microbrewery in Moorpark, CA. After talking with him for a while, and hearing what kind of beers they were brewing over there, I knew that I had to head out there with Tanya. While I am a definite hophead, Tanya is more into saisons, porters and stouts. When Joe told me about their oatmeal stout and chili pepper saison, I promised to pay them a visit.

While one microbrewery is frequently like the others, with the only difference being the taste and variations of the beers they brew, Enegren Brewing is definitely different than any other I have visited. Brew Captain Chris Enegren studied mechanical engineering at Loyola Marymount University and when he graduated from brewing in his kitchen he put this knowledge to work in designing a proprietary brewing system unlike any I have ever seen. Complete with a computerized command center, their brewing system is entirely automated. It is a very cool system to check out, and they produce a quality product. When we got there Sunday they were in the process of building a new refrigeration unit as they had moved their larger one to a unit next door. In other words, they are expanding, with the hopes of beginning to bottle beers in the near future. Continue reading

Business N Beer returns to Abigaile

These photos are from the week 19 meeting of Business & Beer which was held at The Brewery at Abigaile in Hermosa Beach. The Brewery at Abigaile is my favorite brewpub and has one of the best varieties of in-house brewed beers of any of the local South Bay breweries. It was a cold and damp evening so the attendance level was down a little but the enthusiasm of those that did attend did not wane. People that a couple months ago were strangers are now friends, or at the least, friendly acquaintances. That is what networking and Business & Beer is all about; developing personal relationships that eventually evolve into business relationships.

If you live in the South Bay area and networking is an important part of your business model or job description, you should come visit one of our Business & Beer gatherings. You do not need to ask permission or make reservations. We have no rules, no dues and no mandatory meetings. To ensure you are kept aware of upcoming events, sign up to the Business & Beer mailing list and “Like” them on Facebook. At worst, you will enjoy some great craft beers and at best, you will generate some new business. Continue reading
