Waves of Grain Beerfest: A huge success

Waves of Grain Beerfest

Good people and great beer at Waves of Grain Beerfest

Yesterday, the Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach along with sponsors Brewco Manhattan Beach, Rock & Brews El Segundo, LA Car Guy and NW Real Estate Brokers hosted the 2nd Annual Waves of Grain Beerfest; this time benefiting the Richstone Family Center in Hawthorne, CA. The event was sold out and everyone seemed to really enjoy the craft beers provided by more than 40 craft brewers from around the country.

Congratulation to all the sponsors, breweries and attendees for making this another great event. My photos from the event can be found on CraftBeerGuy.com. I hope to see you there next year.

Smog City Officially Welcomed to Torrance

On Friday afternoon several members of the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC), Torrance City Council member Bill Sutherland and a representative from Assembly member Al Muratsuchi’s office joined several dozen fans of Smog City Brewing Company at their newly opened microbrewery and tasting room for an official welcome to Torrance and the Chamber of Commerce. It was just a few weeks ago that Torrance Mayor Scotto cited craft beer as a new growth industry for Torrance so everyone was out in force to show their support for that idea.

Smog City introduced a new beer to their tap list, Third Nipple Tripel, and had some snacks out for the dignitaries and offered pints for $1.00 off during the event. Owner/brewmaster [Jon] Porter was even seen giving some private tours explaining the brewing process and the difference between their horizontal lagering tanks and the more common vertical ones. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. You can see all my photos from the Smog City ribbon cutting on CraftBeerGuy.com.

American Craft Beer Week with Stone Brewing

Day three of the 8th Annual American Craft Beer Week (ACBW) found us out in Pasadena at the Stone Brewing, Company Store. When it comes to venerable Southern California, award winning breweries, it would be pretty tough to beat Stone Brewing. Stone Brewing had the first California beer tasting room that I visited on a regular basis, but it is out in Escondido which is a 100 mile ride. Fortunately, it is a pretty nice ride and Stone makes some quality beer. Recently, Stone Brewing opened a company store at the Del Mar Metro station. It is not nearly as nice of a ride, but it is at least 70 miles closer; and I get to visit my daughter, who lives down the street.

After enjoying a flight of award winning beers from Stone Brewing Company, we headed over to Haven Gastropub to meet my daughter for dinner. Haven brews on location now, and they have a very nice guest tap list. You can read about the experience at both locations on CraftBeerGuy.com. Continue reading
