Beer Paper LA launch party

These photos are from the Beer Paper LA official launch party which was held last night at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach. Beer Paper LA is an online and monthly print paper that dedicates its pages to the local breweries and gastropubs in the Los Angeles, Orange County and Inland Empire areas of Southern California. Rather that reviewing individual craft beers, they concentrate on the brewery itself as well as the brewers that make the magic happen. The paper is free and should be found at any of our local microbreweries, bottle shops, homebrew supply stores and your …

Pliny the Younger release party at 38 Degrees

It is that time of year again; the groundhog looks for his shadow, people dodge asteroids and rumors of Pliny the Younger sightings start making their rounds. It was a week ago that I first heard rumors of Pliny the Younger being poured locally, but when I investigated further I discovered it was Pliny the Elder that was making an appearance; a nice IPA, but not quite a Younger. When I was at the Abigaile One Year Anniversary party a gentleman that was sitting next to us informed me that he had just gotten a text that Pliny the Younger …

Tortilla Cantina hosts another Business & Beer

Last night, Business & Beer returned to Tortilla Cantina in downtown Torrance and we had a very nice turnout. Since we do not have mandatory meetings, people show up when they can and if they are too busy with other things on a particular night, they are welcomed back with open arms. Last night we had several people we have not seen in a while along with one new attendee. It made for a pretty good sized group and everyone seemed to have a good time. Remember, if networking with others is part of your business model and you live …

Photos from Business N Beer at Sophie’s Place

These photos are from our weekly Business & Beer gathering, which was held last night at Sophie’s Place in the Riviera Village section of Redondo Beach. Sophie’s Place is a family run gastropub, run by three brothers, and it is one place that always makes us feel like family; whether we come in as a group or by ourselves. Besides having a very nice beer list, with eight beers available on rotating taps and about 50 varieties available in bottles, they have a great food menu. Last night, Tanya and I tried a Yeti Float which is made with vanilla …

Business & Beer at Alpine Inn, Torrance

These photos are from our return visit to the Alpine Inn with our Business & Beer networking group. The Alpine Inn is a German gastropub that has a nice selection of craft beers from the United States, Germany and the Czech Republic. This was our third visit to the Alpine Inn and it seems that every time we meet there we have a nice turnout of about 15 people. When you consider that Alpine Village is the furthest south we take our group and that it was only three days after New Year’s Day, I was pleased to see the …

Ballast Point Tap Takeover at Brewco, Manhattan Beach

These photos were taken last night, December 3, 2012 at the Ballast Point Tap Takeover which was held at Brewco, Manhattan Beach. Ballast Point Brewing is a micro brewery located in San Diego, CA. Brewco is a gastropub that offers about 25 different bottled beers along with 30 beers on tap. Last night, for the tap takeover, Ballast Point provided eight of their beers on tap. The beers they brought were Longfin Lager, Calico Amber, Sculpin IPA, Schooner APA, Barrel Aged Piper Down Ale, Thai Chili Wahoo Wheat, 2011 Aged Victory at Sea and Sextant Stout (nitro). Anyone that purchased …

Business N Beer’s return visit to Tortilla Cantina

Last night Business & Beer held their 20th gathering; this time it was a return visit to Tortilla Cantina in Torrance. Tortilla Cantina is a gastropub and taco bistro with up to 40 beers on tap. They offer a very wide selection of craft beers with many Southern California brewers represented; the food is pretty good too. It was a cold and rainy evening which seems to keep attendance levels lower; I am sure the return to Pacific Standard Time is not helping. We had a small group but that gives people more opportunities to talk and that is what …

Beer tasting in the Inland Empire

These photos were taken at I and I Brewing Co, Craft Brewing Company, Lazy Dog Cafe, Black Market Brewing, South Coast Winery, Lake Skinner and Brew-Ligion Brewhouse in the Inland Empire area of Southern California. Tanya and I have not really had a chance to venture away for an over-nighter in what seems like forever, so we decided we would head down to Temecula to see if there was a chance that I could visit with my son and his family and maybe do a little beer tasting. Since I knew a visit with the family was not going to …

Photos from Hollywood On Tap

Saturday afternoon, October 20, 2012, was the first Hollywood On Tap beer festival benefiting The Blank Theatre Company. This fund raising event was held at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. The festival included more than 40 craft brews and included dozens of local craft brewers, several food trucks and live music. 100% of the proceeds went to benefit The Blank Theatre Company, a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. Regular readers of this blog know that I have been attending many beer festivals sin the last several months; so of them have been going on for a while and a few of them …
