A Photo a Day For September 2010

A Picture a Day – Project 365 September 2010 What a month September was. I should have figured that starting it off with a visit to a doctor was not a good way to start it off, but I had little choice. Enough complaining. All in all, it was a good month with a visit to my first hot air balloon festival, then off to Europe with Tanya. We had an amazing time together, visiting Ireland, Barcelona and Amsterdam.

Wrapping Up September At Home

I survived Europe, so now it is a matter of waiting until I can see a doctor. I have a feeling my picture of the day is going to be pretty boring for a while. My day 271 photo of the day is of my luggage when I arrived home. Time to go get Buddy. My absence did not cause Buddy to forget about his daily walks since my dad was kind enough to take over that duty while I was out of town. If anything, I think Buddy might have been a little more disciplined on the leash as …

My Photo a Day From Amsterdam

Our first full day in Amsterdam was on Saturday. We were there for the second of two trade shows. I really did not expect much from this show because I expected many attendees were going to be people I already talked to in Spain. It turned out I was quite wrong. I could have left Saturday evening and the trip would have been worth while. Saturday evening we went to dinner with a group of friends to dinner at Hosokawa, a Japanese steakhouse and sushi bar. The dinner lasted about 4.5 hours but time flew with the friends and entertainment. …

A Picture a Day From Spain

When we left off I was in Ireland with my girlfriend, Tanya. We arrived at Barcelona airport early Tuesday morning due in part to a general strike in France. Some things never change.. Upon further reflection, I am not sure why we arrived so late in Barcelona. Perhaps it was because nothing was scheduled to be happening in Spain that night so we opted to stay in Dublin longer. France’s strike got in our way when we went into Amsterdam. Honest mistake. Anyway, Tuesday afternoon we went off to a go-kart track with about 50 other people. I love racing …

Project 365 Does Ireland

I am such a slacker at times. I had full intentions of keeping my picture a day project somewhat current while traveling through Europe, but long days and slow Internet connections made it rather difficult. So it is time to play catch up again. On day 258 we boarded a bus for a three day tour of west and southern Ireland. Since I had never driven on the wrong side of the road intentionally before, much less with a car that had the steering wheel on the wrong side, it was decided that this would be the best way to …

It really hurts me to do this

Seriously, it is painful to sit and type at my laptop lately as I have injured myself. Unfortunately, my doctor is incompetent and my insurance company forces me to jump through hoops, so I guess I will have to toughen up for a while. It also means that most likely my photo a day project will be done in bursts rather than daily. So, here we go with a summary of the last few days. As my regular readers now, I am quite fond of Gu Gu Sushi and they created the GotBaddog.com roll for me. Since then I have …

Critter Cooler

Every Labor Day and Memorial Day weekends for the past 37 years Hermosa Beach holds their Fiesta Hermosa. It is a very large arts and crafts fair that has rides for the kids, a beer garden for the adults, and great food and music for everyone. I enjoy bringing Buddy there, because it is good training for him in that there are a ton of other people, scads of dogs and a bunch of skateboards. Buddy seems to enjoy it for all the attention he gets, and he really does seem to be in his element there. One advantage of …

Phil

Twenty some odd years ago I was riding out to Hermosa Beach to meet my then wife at our favorite watering hole for lunch. Soon after being seated, this guy I recognized vaguely came up to talk. In a nutshell, he had a Harley-Davidson Sportster and wanted to know where I went to have work done on my bike. I told him I did all my own work. He told us a story of woe, having brought his bike into a local shop that was notorious for doing crappy work. To make a long story short, I gave him my …

Getting to know you

Since I do travel a lot, it was decided that Buddy and my dad should get to know each other a little better. Yesterday, we went over to my dad’s and Buddy hung out for a while, then I let my dad take Buddy for a walk. Buddy is a pretty perceptive little guy and he is a quick learner, all we have to do is get my dad comfortable with handling the leash and issuing basic commands. Luckily, Buddy already knows he is supposed to sit at corners, so this should not take long. My photo of the day …
