Photos From Our Final Day in Dublin

Our Final Day in Ireland

Photos From Dublin

I must apologize to all the people we met in Dublin on our final day there. I had assured you the photos I took would be up a couple weeks ago, but I failed. To be honest, I forgot that I had these to do and as soon as we left Dublin we headed to Barcelona then Amsterdam. I have no excuse except that we must have been having too much fun.

Anyway, our last day in Dublin was a very spiritual day as we visited Christ Church and St Patrick’s Cathedral, as well as the Jameson Distillery, Kilmainham Jail and the Church Bar. I want to thank all the people we met in your fine country. Ireland has to be one of my two favorite countries in the world that we have visited and it is due in large part to the wonderful people we encountered along the way, both residents and visitors.

Project 365 Does Ireland

I am such a slacker at times. I had full intentions of keeping my picture a day project somewhat current while traveling through Europe, but long days and slow Internet connections made it rather difficult. So it is time to play catch up again.

On day 258 we boarded a bus for a three day tour of west and southern Ireland. Since I had never driven on the wrong side of the road intentionally before, much less with a car that had the steering wheel on the wrong side, it was decided that this would be the best way to be introduced to the Emerald Isle. This photo was taken at Kylemore Abbey in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland.

All Ireland Football Finals

Photos From Dublin

Sunday was the GAA’s All Ireland Football finals at Croke Park, featuring Cork vs Down. About 83,000 people attended, and it made for a definite party atmosphere in the Dublin area. Since we did not have tickets to the game, we started the day off by visiting Trinity College and checking out the Book of Kells. Although no photos were allowed in the library it was very cool and if you ever make it to Dublin, it is worth the visit.

After the game started, we walked over to Croke Park and got some photos of the stadium and the surrounding area. We then headed over to Gills, which is the pub one block away from the stadium to have a pint or two, and watch the game. Cork beat Down 16-15 and it was a great game. As I make this entry I can still hear the partying in the streets.
