Mother’s Day at the Renaissance Pleasure Faire

Sunday was Mother’s Day and it was beautiful in Southern California. Since Tanya has been doing so much better and has been doing a lot of walking lately, I asked her if she wanted to go to the Renaissance Pleasure Faire at the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in Irwindale. At first she did not express much interest, but after our morning walk she indicated she wanted to go and we could take the bike. That was all I needed to hear; we were off in a flash. I have been gone to the Renaissance Faire several times in the …

Bartels’ Harley-Davidson 10th Annual Chili Cook-Off

These photos are from the Bartels’ 10th Chili Cook-Off, which was held Sunday, April 21 at Bartels’ Harley-Davidson in Marina del Rey, California. Now, to be honest, I am not completely sure if they have been doing this every year for 10 years, or if this was just their 10th one. I suspect it is pretty close to being an annual event. I know that by the time we got there, Lincoln Boulevard was lined with motorcycles on both sides of the street. I had gone to the Rose Bowl earlier that morning, and by the time we got out …

Photos from the Unity Run Pasadena

The running community is a pretty tight group; if I had any doubt about that before, the events of the past few days, culminating with the Unity Run Pasadena, erased any doubts I may have had. These photos were taken today at the Unity Run Pasadena, a 5K which was held today at the Rose Bowl; the event included members of at least 16 different running clubs in the area as well as individuals that came from at least as far away as Riverside participating to remember the victims of the Boston Marathon 2013 terrorist attack. As events unfolded in …

Torrance Firefighters’ 41st Annual Spaghetti Dinner

These photos were taken Saturday at the Torrance Firefighters Association’s 41st Annual Spaghetti Dinner which is a fundraiser to benefit the Alisa Ann Ruch California Burn Foundation (www.aarbf.org). The proceeds go towards sending young burn victims to Champ Camp, a week long summer camp for burn survivors ages 5-16. In addition to the spaghetti dinners served, the women’s auxiliary of the Torrance Firefighters Association had a bake sale with all kinds of homemade goodies. It was another fine turnout and all the volunteers made sure cups were filled and tables were cleared and set for the next guest. I know …

Torrance Firefighters to hold 41st Annual Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser

This Saturday, March 9 2013, the Torrance Firefighters Association will hold their 41st Annual Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser to benefit the Alisa Ann Ruch California Burn Foundation (www.aarbf.org). The dinner will be held at the Ken Miller Recreation Center Auditorium. The money raised goes towards sending children to Champ Camp, a week long, residential summer camp for burn survivors ages 5-16, who have been treated at California hospitals or are current residents of California. Tanya and I went last year and had a great time. While it is put on by the Torrance Firefighters Association, there is participation from agencies all …

Easyriders Bike Show 2013 – Anaheim

These photos are from the 2013 Easyriders Bike Show held at the Anaheim Convention Center on January 5, 2013. The Easyriders Bike Show Tour is put on by Easyriders Events and travels to numerous locations around the country. It features 100’s of custom show and street bikes of every genre. It is always a visual treat; even if it is difficult to focus in all that chrome. I made it there a little earlier today than last year, when I got there a couple hours before it ended, so there were a lot more people to get in the way …

Lady of Magic 2012 New Year’s Eve Party Photos

These photos are from last night’s New Year’s Eve Party at the Redondo Beach Castle; hosted by the Lady of Magic, Sisuepahn Phila. We met Sisuepahn last year when we attended her New Year’s Eve Party 2011. We liked her immediately and immediately recognized that along with being a nice person, she is a really good magician. Sisuepahn puts on various fundraising events using her magic as a draw. She supports several orphanages in Laos and provided assistance to local charities, such as the Midnight Mission in downtown Los Angeles. Last night’s event was to assist the Midnight Mission. While …

Sleepy Hollow and the Legend of Candy Cane Lane

These photos were taken last night at the Sleepy Hollow area of Torrance, which is known as Candy Cane Lane during the Christmas season; a look at the photos makes it easy to figure out why they call it that. On December 1, Tanya and I went there to take some photos like I have for the past couple of years. There were definitely a lot of lights that went up between then and now. Homes that we thought were decorated on December 1 had even more decorations on December 18. Even though it was cold and windy, there were …

Personal tour of the S.S. Lane Victory

These photos are of the S.S. Lane Victory which is located at Berth 46 in the Port of Los Angeles at San Pedro, CA. A couple of weeks ago, Tanya and I were at a regional Chamber of Commerce mixer and I won a raffle prize of tickets for two to receive the President’s Tour of the ship as well as lunch in the Officer’s Mess. It was actually the one thing I wanted to win. Anyway, this morning we met with Anthony Broude, the current President at U.S. Merchant Marine Veterans of World War II, and he gave us …

Santa Claus comes to North Torrance

Santa Claus made a visit to several neighborhoods in North Torrance Tuesday evening, and judging by the turnout and smiles at just one stop; he was a huge hit. Sponsored by the Torrance Police Officers Association (TPOA), Santa’s Sleigh has been going up and down the streets of Torrance since at least 1992. To be honest, they have never gone down our street so I have only caught glimpses of the sleigh as it passed around a corner. Tonight I walked over to another neighborhood to check it out up close. The sleigh stops at either end of long blocks …
