Division II, Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade

These photos are of Division II till the end, of the 2012 Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade. These photos begin with the North High School Saxon Regiment and Color Guard. Parade entries include several ROTC and JROTC’s; as well as Navy and Coast Guard floats. My alma mater, Bishop Montgomery, returned to the parade with one of the more entertaining high school marching bands I have seen in a while. Also included in this group of photos are the Torrance Torrettes and the 1st North Carolina Cavalry Civil War Re-enactors. The watermark was donated to the Rheumatoid Patient Foundation, the …

Photos from the Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade, Division One

As I have far too many photos from the Torrance 53rd Annual Armed Forces Day Parade, I have broken the photos up into three groups. The first group included arriving dignitaries and the Prologue Division of the parade; these photos are from Division I which encompasses parade entries 13-44. This includes the swearing in of the Air Force cadets, the West High School marching band, a couple flyovers and some military hardware. The watermark was donated to my favorite charity, the Rheumatoid Patient Foundation, the only charity just for people with Rheumatoid Autoimmune Disease otherwise known as Rheumatoid Arthritis.

53rd Annual Armed Forces Day Parade in Torrance – Dignitaries and Prologue

These photos were taken Saturday at the 53rd Annual Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade. Torrance is one of the few cities in the United States that has an Armed Forces Day Parade and they have been doing it longer and better than anyone. I read somewhere that this is the largest Armed Forces Day Parade west of the Mississippi River. Since it is the biggest, that means I got a ton of photos; so many that it would be difficult to navigate through all of them if you are looking for something specific. As a result, I am going to …

Photos from the Toyota Automobile Museum in Torrance

As I mentioned yesterday, we recently attended a Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce mixer at the Toyota Automobile Museum. They have an extensive collection of Toyota automobiles; with everything from a 1936 Toyota “Classic” Model AA (okay, it is a replica, but very nice) to Formula 1 and Indy style racers, to concept cars. If you are a car fan, you owe it to yourself to check it out. It is the only Toyota Museum outside of Japan. The museum is located at 19600 Van Ness Avenue and tours are available by appointment only. For more information I would suggest …

Mother’s Day at the Cahuenga Corridor

These photos were taken Sunday, Mother’s Day, at the new Cahuenga Corridor in Hollywood, CA. The Cahuenga Corridor is an open air street market that is held on Sundays on the recently opened East Cahuenga Alley. This was the second week of the street market and it was Mother’s Day, so I was not surprised that it was not packed; but then again, I was not there very long. The Cahuenga Corridor features street vendors, artisans, food and music. It intersects with the farmer’s market and the hours overlap, so I am sure as the street market grows it will …

Torrance Fire Fighters Association 40th Annual Spaghetti Dinner

These photos were taken tonight at the 40th Annual Spaghetti Dinner to benefit the Alisa Ann Ruch California Burn Foundation which was sponsored by the Torrance Fire Fighters Association. The family friendly event was held at the Ken Miller Recreation Center in Torrance, CA. While I have lived in Torrance for more than 40 years and I had been aware of the event, it took joining the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce to get me to finally attend one. I have to admit, I had a good time and it looked like everyone else did as well. There were firefighters …

Saturday morning at Torrance Farmers Market

Long time readers know that I took up juicing about 18 months ago. When Tanya would come out I would offer a taste of the concoctions I made, but her reaction was along the lines of it was not terrible. She was not impressed. A few weeks after she moved in, someone mentioned the movie, “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.” It seems like she immediately went to Netflix and put it on my streaming list. We watched the movie that night. The next day, Tanya asked if I would show her how to use the juicer. As you can imagine, …

Torrance is ready for Christmas

Tanya and I decided to take a drive around Torrance last night, and check out the Christmas lights in some of the smaller neighborhoods. Not every area is going to be as dressed up as the Sleepy Hollow area of Torrance, but it seemed that any street you turn on will have several homes decorated in the holiday spirit. These photos are of some of those homes.
