These photos were taken Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the 8th Annual David Mann Chopperfest, held at the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura, CA. Chopperfest is dedicated to the life and memory of David Mann, arguably the most influential designer in the custom motorcycle world. Besides a bike show that includes some of the most beautiful motorcycles around, there was a motorcycle swap meet, vendors with food, beer, accessories and clothing, music provided by the Bob Carrillo Band and a roller derby exhibition by the Sugartown Rollergirls. Contrary to what you might think, this was fun for the entire family.

Mooneyes 2011 Christmas Party and Car Show

These photos are from the 2011 Mooneye’s Christmas party and custom car show. This annual event was held Saturday December 10, 2011 at the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. This is a true custom car show with all cars being pre-1965. This is a fun event for the entire family and a true visual experience as the car owners obviously put in a tremendous amount of effort and love to turn out the vehicles displayed.

When we went to Staples last night, I got spun around and ended up parking by LA Live on 11th Street. To my surprise, they had the street blocked off and an old style carnival set up. I presumed it was some kind of Christmas carnival, but no one that worked there really knew what was going on. Even the security personnel said they had never seen anything like this before and that it had no name that they knew of. These photos were taken on December 4, 2011 in Torrance, CA. Every year at this time the Sleepy Hollow section of Torrance goes all out with the Christmas decorations and the area is transformed into Candy Cane Lane. I remember the first time I went there. It made Disneyland’s nighttime lights seem rather tame in comparison. This is great fun for the entire family. You can drive up and down the streets, or park and enjoy the decorations up close, maybe meet Santa Claus himself or partake in some hot chocolate and homemade cookies. I usually go two or three …

Surfing at the Hermosa Pier

I was at the Hermosa Beach pier for the GI Joe Pier-to-Pier Run/Walk this morning. Once the runners and walkers headed off towards the Manhattan Beach pier I decided to walk down to the shore and check out the morning surf. The surf was pretty decent sized and it looked like the surfers were enjoying themselves. The overcast skies and slight wind made for some great contrasts. GI Joe Pier-to-Pier Run/Walk

This morning I headed out to Hermosa Beach to take photos of the 3rd Annual GI Joe Pier-to-Pier Run/Walk. Participants run or walk from the Hermosa Beach pier to the Manhattan Beach pier and back again. From what I gather, this run started off as the graduation ceremony for the GI Joe Bootcamp which operates out of Manhattan Beach. Eventually the City of Hermosa Beach asked Joe to make it a community event. It was a bit chilly this morning, so that may explain the low turnout, but the participants all seemed to enjoy the run along the shore. Back …

While driving through New Mexico Tanya decided that she wanted to have Cracker Barrel one more time before we got to California. She brought out her Xoom and found a couple in Albuquerque. She brought out the street level view and it looked like they had a parking lot that would accommodate us, so we put it in the GPS as our dinner destination. The day before I headed to Europe, I got a telephone call from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Apparently they were canceling my non-stop flight from Chicago to Amsterdam. They wanted me to wait an additional day to leave Chicago. Since I expected to be compensated for the hotel room I had paid for in Amsterdam, KLM decided to pawn me off on Air France. Air France was able to cram me (literally) onto a flight from Chicago to Paris, then I could stretch out on a flight from Paris to Amsterdam. Not exactly how I wanted to start this trip, …

These photos were taken on September 25, 2011 on a bus tour through London. I was recently in Europe for a couple of weeks. I visited Amsterdam, Prague and London.
