Starbucks Dinner

A few weeks ago I saw an ad on Facebook targeting Starbucks’ fans that lived in California. They were giving away coupons to try their new Artisan Snack Plates. Their offerings seemed to be on the healthy side and since I had not had dinner yet, Buddy and I decided to walk up to the local Starbucks and try it out. Since I was kind of hungry I went for the one that looked to be the most filling, the chicken and hummus on wheat flatbread. It was okay and probably better for me than a cinnamon swirl pastry, so …

A Great Honor

It is no secret that I have a sushi dependency. Unfortunately, just any sushi will not do, I have become spoiled. I was in Nobu in Las Vegas a few weeks ago and tried one of their rolls. It was okay, at best. For me, it is Gu Gu Sushi and Roll or nothing at all. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to return after three weeks of no Gu Gu. To my surprise I saw they had created a new baddog roll. It is made with cream cheese, deep fried shrimp, avocado and cucumber topped with smoked salmon, capers and …

Mid-July Picture of the Day

The calendar tells me we have reached the middle of July. I can not believe how slow this month gets after the 4th. Oh well, here is some catch up with my picture of the day. Day 194 is me while walking Buddy. The June gloom is nothing but a memory now. Yesterday, Tanya and I decided to barbecue. She made one of her delicious Strawberry Pecan Salads. I barbecued some thighs and legs. Great leftovers. Since it looks like we are going to be stuck here for a while I decided to take Buddy to the groomers. Here he …

Breaking of the Bread at Itzik Hagadol

When Tanya comes to visit, I try to mix it up with the places we eat. Some places I have introduced her to have become regular stops when she is in town. One place we were both recently introduced to is Itzik Hagadol Grill. Delicious food, but a long drive, so we have only been there three or four times. If I lived closer it would be more frequent, for sure. Day 163 of my picture a day shows me getting ready to enjoy a Mixed Meat skewer (chicken thighs, lamb, kabab, hanging tender, fillet). Toda to Marina for the …

Gaucho’s Brazilian Steakhouse

Gaucho’s Brazilian Steakhouse [adrotate group=”6″] Valparaiso, IN The first time I visited Valparaiso, IN was 2007. My girlfriend was new to the area, so neither of us had a clue as far as any of the good restaurants in the area. It seemed that in order for us to find fine dining we had to drive an hour north to Chicago. Luckily, we happened to drive past Gaucho’s on Highway 30. Not only was the food good, the service was great. At the end of our meal we went into the cocktail lounge. Tanya had recently been introduced to Mai …

Itzik Hagadol Grill

Itzik Hagadol Grill, Encino, CA [adrotate group=”6″] Authentic Israeli Food When I was first introduced to Itzik Hagadol, I was told the name was Big Itzik. When I wrote about it last month, I called it Big Itzik. As I was standing outside waiting on our dinner guests I noticed it did not say “big” anywhere. I was told that hagadol means big. I have not been able to verify that. What I do know, is that their food is delicious. [adrotate group=”1″]

Sort This Out

Every weekend I am home, I try to take a motorcycle ride to somewhere cool. When my son joins me, we frequently end up at a winery or brewery. Many of these locations not only have a nice variety of beverages, but have very good food to go along with it. A couple weeks ago, we headed up to Solvang and discovered Sort This Out Cellars. To be honest, I do not recall the last time I had visited Solvang. I kind of remembered the windmill and European style architecture, but it had been long enough that I remembered nothing …
