Pat Furey for Mayor Campaign Kickoff Fundraiser

While I have never used this website to promote any particular political agenda, this is about to change. The City of Torrance will be electing a new mayor in June of 2014 and I am throwing my support, in any way possible, to Torrance City Councilman, Pat Furey. It was close to 25 years ago that I first met Mr. Furey and while we have never hung out and drank beer together, for as long as I have known of him, he has been involved in various organizations that benefited kids and that is something I feel quite deeply about. …

Photos from Taste of the Nation LA

These photos are from Share Our Strengths Taste of the Nation Los Angeles which was held Sunday at Media Park in Culver City, CA. Taste of the Nation, put on by No Kid Hungry, featured some of Los Angeles’ top chefs with more than 50 food options with everything from tacos and hamburgers to shrimp and tasty little desserts. To tell you the truth, there was far more food available than I could itemize. Judging by the lines and aromas emanating from the various booths, it was all pretty good. I was able to try a few samples, each of …

Bartels’ Ride to the Dunes for Child Abuse Awareness

On Sunday, Bartels’ Harley-Davidson sponsored a Ride to the Dunes to help bring about a greater awareness of the epidemic state of child abuse. The ride began at Bartels’ in Marina del Rey and took the coast up to Sycamore Cove State Beach. I had too much to do Sunday to take the day off, but I did head over to Bartels’ before everyone took off. They had music provided by Jukebox Zero and a couple sponsors there providing donuts and selling raffle tickets. With Grand Marshal, Lorenzo Lamas leading the escorted group, I’d guess they had about 150 bikes …

On Sunday, the 18th Street Arts Center held their 1st Annual CRUSH, an artisanal wine, art and food tasting event at their location on 18th Street in Santa Monica. This was a fundraising event for the 18th Street Arts Center and I would say they had a pretty nice turnout of about 500-600 people; if I had to guess. It was a great day to be outside, the food smelled and tasted great, there was good music, fun people and wine; lots and lots of wine. As you know, I am more of a craft beer guy, but we did …

In addition to the spaghetti dinners served, the women’s auxiliary of the Torrance Firefighters Association had a bake sale with all kinds of homemade goodies. It was another fine turnout and all the volunteers made sure cups were filled and tables were cleared and set for the next guest. I know …
