3rd Annual BAM Fest Santa Monica

Saturday, October 6, was the 3rd Annual BAM Fest (Beer, Art and Music Festival), which is a fundraiser benefiting the 18th Street Arts Center. I have been talking to many of the local brewmasters about this event and I heard nothing but good things about it; now I know why. This was a very fun event with beautiful weather, beautiful people, good food, good music and some really great beers. All of the local micro breweries were represented with Strand Brewing, Monkish Brewing, The Brewery at Abigaile, El Segundo Brewing and Smog City all showing up. There were over 30 …

The Blank Theatre Company is having a craft beer festival, Hollywood On Tap, as a fundraiser on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. The festival will include more than 40 craft brews including dozens of local craft brewers, about a dozen food trucks and live music. 100% of the proceeds will go to benefit The Blank Theatre, a 501(c) (3) non-profit arts organization. Day three of the 2012 LA Beer Week

So, this is the 4th Annual LA Beer Week, which runs from September 20-30. Yes, our “Beer Week” is 11 days long. I am not sure if we get overtime or not. I have not made a concerted effort to participate in all the festivities but it seems that I will be to some degree. It was not planned, but Day One of LA Beer Week happen to be on a Thursday, which means we had a Business & Beer meetup at The Brewery at Abigaile. Friday, or Day Two of Beer Week was spent at Oktoberfest at Alpine Village. …

Business & Beer returns to The Brewery at Abigaile, Hermosa Beach

LA Beer Week started on Thursday, September 20, and Business & Beer acknowledged the event by returning to The Brewery at Abigaile in Hermosa Beach. The Brewery at Abigaile is a brewpub that happens to brew some of the finest beers in the South Bay and has an outstanding food menu as well. With their wide selections of available beers it is safe to say there is something for just about everyone. This was Business & Beer’s second visit to Abigaile and we had our largest gathering to date. In fact, the only other gathering that came close to Thursday’s …

My comments to the Torrance Planning Commission in support of CUP12-00015

Tonight, Smog City Brewing had their hearing in front of the Torrance Planning Commission for a Conditional Use Permit to open a tasting room in Torrance. If you want to look it up, it was CUP12-00015. As we were given three minutes and I was pretty nervous, my comments ended up being edited slightly at the last minute; but the following is my comments in their entirety. Oh, they were granted the permit and will hopefully be open in February and on the Business & Beer rotation soon thereafter. My name is Lloyd Brown. I have been a Torrance and …

Business & Beer returns to Strand Brewing Co, Torrance

These photos are from the Business & Beer get-together that we had last night at Strand Brewing Company in Torrance. Although we had several regular attendees that were unable to attend due to being out of town, we still had eight people show up, which seems to be the minimum that are coming out; it is good to see. We are still getting first and second timers so my confidence level about Business & Beer remains high. Next week, Business N Beer will be returning to The Brewery at Abigaile in Hermosa Beach. We have gained several new members since …

Business & Beer at Monkish Brewing, Torrance

Two months ago, Tanya and I came up with the idea of Business & Beer; a networking group for small business owners in the South Bay that would meet after normal working hours and we would support the local craft brewers in the area. Since we became familiar with many of the brewpubs and gastropubs in the South Bay area, we decided to include them in the rotation. Last night we had our ninth get-together and our first return to one of our original hosts, Monkish Brewing Company in Torrance, CA. Monkish Brewing is a relatively new micro brewery in …

2012 Alpine Bier Fest at Alpine Village Photos

Saturday, the Alpine Village tried something new by holding a one day beer festival, the 2012 Alpine Bier Fest; featuring American craft beers. While Alpine Village has had their Oktoberfest running for 45 years and they offer some very nice bier, it is German. Bier Fest featured 106 different brews from 34 small and medium sized craft breweries. Talk about feeling like a kid in a candy store; there were some truly amazing brews available. It was good to see local brewers Monkish, El Segundo Brewing Co, The Brewery at Abigaile and Strand Brewing represented. In addition to the wide …

Alpine Village Bier fest coming September 1

Alpine Village in Torrance, CA, home of Southern California’s largest and oldest Oktoberfest (45 years), is spreading their wings so to speak by holding their first ever Bier fest. While Oktoberfest is unmistakably German, Bier fest is German in name only. Otto Radtke, the General Manager of Alpine Village is a big beer fan and he is proving it with the selection of American craft micro breweries that will be represented at his inaugural event. Local brewers and hosts to several of our Business N Beer events, The Brewery at Abigaile, Strand Brewing, El Segundo Brewing and Monkish Brewing will …
