Strand Brewing Co Pint Night at Naja’s Place

These photos are from Strand Brewing Company’s Pint Night at the world famous Naja’s Place, located on the International Boardwalk at the Redondo Beach Pier. This event was to commemorate Strand Brewing Company’s three years of brewing craft ales and was held at Naja’s Place because they were the first location to pour Strand Brewing Company beer. For Thursday’s celebration, Strand provided these fine brews:

Beach House Amber Ale
24th Street Pale Ale
Atticus IPA
Black Sand Double IPA
Bagheera East IPA
Special Cask of Double Dry Hopped Atticus IPA

The event started at 6:00 PM and advertised that the first 50 attendees got to keep their glassware with the Strand Brewing Company logo. We had Business & Beer starting the same time, so I did not make it until 8:30. Judging by the crowd they had, the glassware was probably gone by 6:30; Naja’s Place was absolutely packed. I wanted to try the Atticus on cask, but that was gone long before I arrived; I will have to wait. It is obvious that Rich Marcello and Joel Elliot, co-owners of Strand Brewing Company, have built a very strong following; they are to be congratulated for a job well done. Here is to three more years, and then some. Continue reading

Photos from Business N Beer at Sophie’s Place

These photos are from our weekly Business & Beer gathering, which was held last night at Sophie’s Place in the Riviera Village section of Redondo Beach. Sophie’s Place is a family run gastropub, run by three brothers, and it is one place that always makes us feel like family; whether we come in as a group or by ourselves. Besides having a very nice beer list, with eight beers available on rotating taps and about 50 varieties available in bottles, they have a great food menu. Last night, Tanya and I tried a Yeti Float which is made with vanilla bean ice cream and chocolate syrup, and topped with a Yeti Imperial Stout from Great Divide Brewing Company. It was pretty good, although I think next time we will get the chocolate on the side so Tanya can have her chocolate and I can taste the beer.

If you live or work in the South Bay area and find networking to be a valuable asset to your business; and you enjoy American craft beer, you should consider joining us sometime for Business & Beer. We meet every Thursday at a different microbrewery, brewpub or gastropub in the South Bay area. The schedule is found on the front page of BusinessNBeer.com. Good people, good beer and good food make for a winning combination. How can you go wrong? I hope to see you there sometime. Continue reading

Schooner at Sunset, Sunset Beach

These photos were taken Saturday at a new gastropub, Schooner at Sunset, which is located at 16821 Pacific Coast Highway, Sunset Beach, CA. For those not sure where Sunset Beach is, it is the very north end of Huntington Beach, just south of Seal Beach. Your car’s GPS is most likely going to call it Huntington Beach, so don’t worry, it is all the same place.

To be honest, I am not really in the habit of going down there unless I am taking a weekend motorcycle ride down the coast. The fact of the matter is, when I initially left the house this afternoon I was headed north; but since the destination I had in mind was not to be found on the Charger’s GPS, I remembered hearing that Schooner at Sunset had opened, and put their address in the GPS instead. The only reason I knew of Schooner at Sunset was that a friend of mine, Daniel Drennon, told me he was involved as their Director of Craft Beer. Having met Daniel during the last American Craft Beer Week when he was the “beer guy” at LA Weekly, I knew that the craft beer menu would be something I could get into. When I saw his list of available craft beers on tap for their grand opening I was very disappointed that I was going to have to miss it due to a schedule conflict with a couple event photography gigs I had.
