Redondo Beach Chamber Regional Mixer at Seaside Lagoon

Last night, I headed over to the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce Annual Regional Mixer at the Seaside Lagoon in Redondo Beach. While it would be easy for me to just write off the Chamber of Commerce based on my treatment by the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC) I refuse to do so. I have found a lot of value in attending the various regional mixers that local chambers put on, because most of them [and their members] understand the value of free exposure. As a matter of fact, being named the official photographer for the Palos Verdes Street Fair was due to my attending the Palos Verdes Chamber Mixer back in February.

We did not stay long as Tanya was not feeling well and I was not really in the groove as I had to spend too much effort intentionally not photographing any TACC board members, but it was a nice event. We met a few people from various chambers and introduced a few people to the Rheumatoid Patient Foundation and Business N Beer.

The participating chambers included Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Rancho Palos Verdes, Torrance, Harbor City/Harbor Gateway, Carson, El Segundo, Lomita and Gardena chambers. There were free food samples provided by Captain Kidd’s, Corner Bakery, Isabella’s Cookie Company (killer cookies, by the way), Silvio’s, Ruby’s and several others. There was a live band and door prizes. All in all, a nice event and it gave us some ideas on what local Chamber of Commerce we will join next. Continue reading

Business N Beer at Strand Brewing Co, Torrance

These photos were taken at our latest Business N Beer get-together that we had last night at Strand Brewing Company in Torrance. As yesterday was International IPA Day, it was fitting that we met at a micro brewery that provides such nice ales, and in particular, a couple very nice IPA’s. The group was a little smaller than last week, but several people that were at Strand Brewing anyway worked their way over to our group to find out more about Business N Beer. Our host even mentioned how he had noticed people coming over to check us out; and some of our attendees mingled with the other patrons. People networking over a beer.

The common question I am asked by the curious is, “what is Business N Beer?” In a nutshell, Business N Beer is a bunch of small business owners (and craft beer enthusiasts) that get together on Thursday evenings to network. Most own their own business, or their job requires that they network with others. We have real estate and insurance agents, IT guys, Internet marketers, an inventor, people seeking work. It really covers the spectrum. There are networking groups out there that meet before work at a Denny’s or at Sizzler for lunch; with mandatory attendance and dues. We meet after work, no dues and no mandatory meetings. We are local business owners supporting local businesses, local brewers and craft beer. Just come socialize and maybe do some business. If nothing else, you will find some amazing beers and most likely we will go somewhere you have yet to visit. Every week we go somewhere different, you will enjoy. Continue reading

Business N Beer at The Brewery at Abigaile

Last night we had our second Business N Beer gathering; this time at The Brewery at Abigaile in Hermosa Beach, CA. Abigaile is a brewpub that currently offers five really nice brews with the Full Nelson, an XPA, being my current favorite. The Brewery’s brewmaster, Brian Brewer, came over and talked beer with our group. I know several mentioned that they enjoyed the experience. This week we had a few more people show up than last week, but it was an entirely different group of people. This shows me that our networking group will grow and as people return to subsequent events they will meet new people. That is what it is all about.

I want to thank the entire staff of Abigaile for the pleasant experience, especially our server, Travis and of course Brian for spending some time with our group. I’d also like to thank everyone that came out and I hope to see you at our next event on July 26 at Monkish Brewing in Torrance. Monkish Brewing will be the first of several micro breweries we will be visiting. Continue reading
