Photos from Business & Beer at Monkish Brewing Co, Torrance

These photos are from our most recent visit to Monkish Brewing Company in Torrance, with our Business & Beer networking group. Monkish Brewing is a microbrewery in Torrance that specializes in Belgian style ales, with usually seven or eight different options available. Even though the weather was a little iffy with it being chilly and some rain we still had a nice turnout. It seems that Business & Beer is growing to the point that our minimum size is now 10-15 when not too long ago our smaller groups might have only eight. It will be interesting to see where …

Business & Beer comes back to Strand Brewing, Torrance

These photos are from our most recent Business & Beer gathering which we had at Strand Brewing Company in Torrance. Strand Brewing is a local microbrewery that has been growing by leaps and bounds over the last several months. I remember when I first started going there, there would be maybe three or four people on a Saturday afternoon. These days you and more likely to find 15-20 on a Thursday evening. I can imagine that Saturdays are even better. We had about 20 people show up for Business & Beer which was about double of what I expected; it …

Business & Beer at El Segundo Brewing Co, El Segundo

These photos are from the Business & Beer return visit to the El Segundo Brewing Company (ESBC) tasting room. This was our second visit to ESBC and we had a few more people than our first visit there, so that was a good thing. El Segundo Brewing, also known as Blue House Ales, is a microbrewery that makes some of my favorite IPA’s (White Dog and Two 5 Left). They also have some nice pale ales as well as their Hyperion Stout. Last night they offered a vanilla bean stout that was so good we had to bring a growler …

Ribbon cutting at Sign-A-Rama, South Bay

These photos are from the grand opening, open house and ribbon cutting at Sign*A*Rama South Bay, located at 1820 W. Carson Street in Torrance. My regular readers know that I have been concentrating my efforts in 2012 towards promoting local businesses, so when the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC) made us aware of the upcoming event I made a point of reaching out to the owners of this new business to offer them some free exposure. I have to admit, this was one of the more fun ribbon cutting events I have attended in the last year. Not only …

Business & Beer makes a return visit to Alpine Inn, Torrance

These photos are from our Business & Beer meet-up at the Alpine Inn at Alpine Village in Torrance. It was our 15th gathering and we had 15 attendees; coincidence? Probably. I have to say I was pretty surprised at the number of people that came out. The last time we did Business & Beer at Alpine Inn we only had eight people come out. That was pretty much the reason that we set Alpine Village as the furthest south we would venture with our group. If we continue to grow the way we are, I may have to consider expanding …

Business & Beer returns to Sophie’s Place, Redondo Beach

These photos are from our 14th Business & Beer gathering, which was held at Sophie’s Place in Redondo Beach. Sophie’s Place is a great little gastropub in the Riviera Village and one of our personal favorite destinations in Redondo Beach. On the drive over there I could not help but notice how beautiful the sky and ocean was, so I did stop to take some photos, which is why some of the beginning pictures are not exactly business or beer. We had a lot of competition yesterday with inclement weather, a Chamber of Commerce business expo and the debate between …

Photos from the TACC Business Expo

Yesterday afternoon, we headed over to the Marriott Hotel in Torrance for the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC) Business Expo. I had a few events to cover yesterday, but I had people that were participating in the expo that I wanted to see, so I made sure I was there as soon as it started. I must admit, I was surprised at how many businesses were represented. The place was packed. Naturally, there were some TACC reps that did not seem too happy to see me [or my camera] there, but the brick and mortar business owners I spoke …

Fall Gathering Open House at Abigaile, Hermosa Beach

Last night we went to the Abigaile Fall Gathering open house in Hermosa Beach. If you read this blog with any regularity you have probably heard me mention them on numerous occasions as they house The Brewery at Abigaile. We discovered them during American Craft Beer Week when the manager at The Rockefeller recommended them to us. We quickly became big fans. Not only did they brew a wide variety of beers, but they had some nice plates on their menu that made it interesting to experiment. I soon learned of their Chef Tin and was immediately impressed. The guy …

Business & Beer returns to The Rockefeller, Hermosa Beach

These photos are from our 13th Business & Beer gathering which was held at The Rockefeller in Hermosa Beach, which is one of our favorite gastropubs in the South Bay area. The Rockefeller offers some great menu selections and has about 25 beers on tap; which makes it perfect for Business & Beer. While driving over there we discussed how many people we should expect. We knew that many of our regular attendees had other commitments so I was hoping for maybe 10 people to show up. I said that I would like to see one or two new faces …

Business & Beer comes to Tortilla Cantina, Torrance

It was Day 8 of LA Beer Week (LABW) and Business & Beer made their first appearance at Tortilla Cantina in Old Torrance. From what I heard and saw, everyone had a great time. Tortilla Cantina is a “taco bistro” that boasts 18 different kinds of tacos and 35 beers on tap. Most of the beers are craft beers with several local options available. We had about 15 people with a few first timers and a couple second timers; it looked like they were all enjoying the networking opportunity. Next week, Business & Beer will return to The Rockefeller, a …
