Celebrating Tanya’s birthday & health

Wednesday was Tanya’s birthday and since she has been feeling much better over that past couple of months, combined with the fact that she has been working pretty hard lately, we decided to take a couple days off to celebrate her birthday.

We started off on Wednesday at Matsuyama Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar and had a couple friends join us. Anyone that has been following this blog for a while knows that we are huge fans of Matsuyama Sushi, so that was a good start to the day. We then decided to go out to Palos Verdes to see if we could find any whales to photograph. We spotted one swimming mammal, but I don’t know if it was a whale or a dolphin; we did not get a chance to photograph it. We then headed down to the Redondo Beach breakwater to catch the sunset and ended the day with a visit to Sophie’s Place for a slice of birthday carrot cake. If you like carrot cake and live in the South Bay, Sophie’s is where you want to go. Continue reading

2nd Annual Soldiers Supporting Soldiers, Westminster, CA

Saturday the Soldiers for Jesus MC held their 2nd Annual Soldiers Supporting Soldiers Run, as a fundraiser, at the Westminster Elks Lodge 2346, Home of the Beefeaters. The Soldiers for Jesus MC (SFJMC) held the event to collect items to be sent to an Army unit stationed in Afghanistan. They collected things like playing cards, pre-paid phone cards, disposable cameras, and basic amenities like socks. In return for a cash and item donation we were treated to some food and live music provided by the Anonymous. There was also a 50/50 raffle to help generate cash.

There were quite a few clubs represented out there; in fact, now that I think about it, most were in clubs; while I was there anyway. I rode out with my buddy Phil and some of the Original Sinners that I met via Meetup earlier this week. After hanging out for a while, Phil and I headed over to Matsuyama Sushi, because we were just too close to not do it. Continue reading

A Saturday ride around the South Bay

I picked up a new Canon 5D Mark II the other day and since I need to get some practice in before I feel comfortable photographing events, like the PV Street Fair coming up in a few weeks, I decided to take a ride around the South Bay with a couple friends and put the camera through some real world experience; the way I plan on using it.

We started off by riding around the Palos Verdes Peninsula and ended up at Trump National Golf Club for a beer and a little snack. After spending a little time these we headed over to the Strand Brewing Company in Torrance. There we happened to run into Bonnie, our server from our visit to Rock & Brews a couple weeks ago. As coincidence would have it, she just happened to be there helping out. Strand Brewing has been around a couple years, but I guess they just opened their tasting room a couple weeks or months ago. As one member of our group had to leave, I called Tanya to see if she wanted to join us at Matsuyama Sushi. Naturally, she did so we headed over to the house to pick her up. It was the perfect end to a pretty perfect day. It turns out, I really like the camera too. Continue reading
