American Craft Beer Week: 1321 Taproom and Hudson House

Day three of the 7th Annual American Craft Beer Week found us at 1321 Downtown Taproom in Torrance and Hudson House in Redondo Beach. It has been a year since my first visit to 1321 Taproom and my first visit to Hudson House. Actually, I never heard of Hudson House prior to yesterday, so this search for different craft beers is definitely introducing me to new places in the South Bay. We started off at 1321 Downtown Taproom because they serve flights and we were not planning on dining. It turns out that was a good plan since they apparently …

American Craft Beer Week: Redondo Beach

The 7th annual American Craft Beer Week continues and we visited two more local craft beer suppliers; Select Beer Store and Redondo Beach Brewing Company, both located in the Riviera Village area of Redondo Beach. While I was readily familiar with Redondo Beach Brewing Company, I only became aware of Select Beer Store last weekend when we visited Strand Brewing Company and the beer-tender, Bonnie, informed us that Strand Brewing would be featured at Select Beer Store as part of American Craft Beer Week. Select Beer advertises that they stock more than 350 bottles and twelve rotating taps of American …

American Craft Beer Week: Naja’s Place Redondo Beach

It is American Craft Beer Week and I have decided to try and find as many American craft beers as possible in the South Bay. I started my search at Naja’s Place on the International Boardwalk on the Redondo Beach Pier. Tanya has been taken off the Methotrexate that has prevented her from enjoying a nice beer, she is going to be able to join me on this adventure. Since Naja’s Place has 88 beers on tap, it seemed like the best place to start. Unfortunately, Naja’s does not offer flights, but the bartender, Kara, was kind enough to provide …

Mother’s Day at the Cahuenga Corridor

These photos were taken Sunday, Mother’s Day, at the new Cahuenga Corridor in Hollywood, CA. The Cahuenga Corridor is an open air street market that is held on Sundays on the recently opened East Cahuenga Alley. This was the second week of the street market and it was Mother’s Day, so I was not surprised that it was not packed; but then again, I was not there very long. The Cahuenga Corridor features street vendors, artisans, food and music. It intersects with the farmer’s market and the hours overlap, so I am sure as the street market grows it will …

A Saturday ride around the South Bay

I picked up a new Canon 5D Mark II the other day and since I need to get some practice in before I feel comfortable photographing events, like the PV Street Fair coming up in a few weeks, I decided to take a ride around the South Bay with a couple friends and put the camera through some real world experience; the way I plan on using it. We started off by riding around the Palos Verdes Peninsula and ended up at Trump National Golf Club for a beer and a little snack. After spending a little time these we …

TACC May Networking at Noon at Aimee’s Bistro

Today, Tanya and I joined the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC) at Aimee’s Bistro in Redondo Beach for the May meeting of their Networking at Noon. The TACC Networking at Noon is a monthly gathering of Chamber members; usually held at a local restaurant. So far we have been pretty lucky with the host restaurant, but today we really scored by having it at Aimee’s Bistro. The food was delicious. I see a return in my future; maybe do a review on it. The networking event is one of the perks of being a member of the Torrance Area …

Matsuyama Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar Grand Opening!

The residents of Orange County, Westminster to be specific, have a new sushi restaurant in town, Matsuyama Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar. I am here to tell you that if you are a fan of great sushi, you do not want to hesitate checking it out. I promise you, you have never had a sushi experience like this. In my youth I looked forward to things like Christmas and getting my driver’s license. As I got older, things like tax refunds and stock dividend checks were anticipated anxiously; they all pale in comparison to how much I was looking forward …

Rock and Brews, El Segundo

A couple of weeks ago, my buddy Phil told me about a new restaurant in El Segundo that had 50 beers on tap, so it did not take much convincing to get me to head over to Rock & Brews last Saturday to check it out. Rock & Brews is partially owned by Gene Simmons, so it was a safe bet that with the combination of rock and roll and 50 beers on tap this was going to be a pleasurable experience. The weather was so-so, but we wanted to go for a bike ride and I figured it would …

BNI Noon Networkers at South End Racquet Club

Last week at a Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce event, I was approached about coming to a meeting of the BNI Noon Networkers at the South End Racquet and Tennis Club, which was held today. BNI stands for Business Networking International, an global business networking organization that has been around for 25 years. The premise is that each chapter limits membership to one business per category. For example, at the networking event I attended today, there was a realtor, dentist, graphic artist, auto mechanics, computer repair person and several other occupations represented. I was invited since they wanted a photographer …
