The Black Hills Rally ends

I have been coming to Sturgis since 1986, and have attended numerous times. The last time I came was in 2006 and I told myself I would not return. Circumstances changed and I found myself meeting Tanya here. Every other time I arrived at the beginning of the rally. This year I came towards the end. Smart move. I met a lot of nice people on this journey, from Wes and Dave of F.I.W.S. to the Anderson’s of Wisconsin, who gave us the idea of staying an additional day. My photo of the day for day 227 is of a …

Motocross

Yesterday, we took a ride through Spearfish Canyon, visited Deadwood, watched some motocross and visited a very nice petrified forest that happened to be behind our cabin. While at the races I was able to practice my action shots with the Canon and am very happy with the results. I gave a stack of my business cards to a track official that said he knew most of the parents of the racers. If you received one of the cards and came here looking for the photos I took, you are a little early. I am working with a slow connection, …

Sharing Sturgis

Last May, I came through South Dakota and Sturgis with Tanya, and all I could do was talk about how much more fun it would be if we were on a bike, riding down these open roads. Today, we lived the experience. She drove from IN to meet me, and today we went into Sturgis and cruised Main Street. We then rode to Rapid City to hit the Harley dealer as I had gotten a short that caused my tail light to not come on. I suspect it was from this huge bump I hit somewhere in CO. It was …

Sturgis!

Long day yesterday, which is why this post is a day late. I started the day off at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for a saline drip. Apparently, I am not as young as I used to be and with the extreme heat I had been dealing with I got severely dehydrated. I thought I had been drinking enough water along the way, but I guess not. My picture of the day for day 224 is of two gentlemen I met at Mule Creek Junction, WY. They were with a group called Free Ice Water Services and they were providing …

Rocky Mountain High

Day 223 of my picture a day project, and day three of my ride to Sturgis. Today I rode from Grand Junction, through Denver and into Cheyenne, WY. The height of my journey would have to be the Eisenhower Tunnel, since it is above 11,000 feet. The down side was that the wind was so bad going out of Denver that it blew my helmet cam off. Really sucks as I had gotten some great videos. Oh well. This photo was taken shortly after I realized that I was no longer the owner of a helmet cam.

Grand Junction

Last night I rode to Mesquite, NV. I stopped in Henderson and met a friend for dinner. He then joined me for about 30 miles. It was the slowest I have ridden this entire trip (but worth it). I started the day off by riding through the Virgin River Gorge on I-15. That place is amazing. I used my helmet cam, so videos will be up after I get home. I happened to have a bug hit my lens with messed up 10 of my 30 videos. My day 222 picture of the day is what a guy looks like …

Sturgis or Bust

Three months ago I took a test ride on a 2010 Harley-Davidson Limited, in Sioux Falls, SD. I was so impressed with the bike that a couple weeks later I owned one. I now have 3,063 miles on it and I am getting ready to more than double that number, beginning now. Day 221 of my photo a day project shows my Limited cleaned, gassed up, packed and ready to go. If you happen to see me, be sure to say hello.

Bath time for baby

Heading out to Sturgis tomorrow, so decided to give the Limited a bath before we leave. I know the first thing I will be looking for when I arrive is a bikini bike wash to get all the grime off her from the ride out there. I have a great route planned and should have some beautiful scenery to photograph and video between here and there. My picture of the day for day 220 is of the Limited after she has been rinsed off, patiently waiting for me to rub her down.

Picture Perfect Day

Day 219 of my photo a day project. A good friend of mine, that I had not seen in far too long contacted me and asked if I wanted to hang out. I naturally said yes, and we decided to meet up and go out for a late lunch, early dinner. As I have always spoken highly of Pancho’s in Manhattan Beach, and for some reason I had never taken her there, it was decided that this would be our destination. In keeping with the theme of the weekend, we took the Night Train out to Manhattan. My photo of …

Feeling Neglected

To be honest, I never dreamed that this would happen. Prior to May, my favorite around town bike was my Night Train. It is slim, sleek, light and very easy to manipulate through traffic. The perfect city bike. Then I got the Limited. While this bike is twice as big in bulk and weight, it is a pleasure to ride, and I actually find myself taking the Limited for trips around town. I decided that I need to start spending more time with the Night Train, so yesterday I started using her for all my tooling around town. My picture …
