The Beach Reporter’s Restaurant of the Month – Ortega 120, Redondo Beach

Wednesday evening, The Beach Reporter crowned Ortega 120 in Redondo Beach as their October 2012, Restaurant of the Month. I discovered Ortega 120 in 2009 when I saw them on a local news station on Cinco de Mayo. What caught my interest was that the “120” in the name referred to the number of tequilas they served. I immediately knew that was where I had to spend that Cinco de Mayo. I was happy to discover that not only did they carry more tequilas than I will probably ever try, but they had really good food too. I think that having the lady up front making tortillas in front of everyone was an indicator that they had confidence in the freshness of their product. Not only do they have great food, but their Margarita has been named the best in LA for a couple years now. I have returned several times since.

Tonight’s event was very well attended and there were appetizers, live music and $5 Margaritas. It was a recipe for a fun evening. Congratulations to Ortega 120 on being named Restaurant of the Month for October 2012 and thank you to The Beach Reporter for the invitation. I can not wait for your next event. Continue reading

Kids Magic Show at the Redondo Beach Castle

These photos were taken at the Redondo Beach Castle’s free magic show for children. At the end of 2011 I decided that I would try to devote as much time as possible to promoting fund raising events for local non-profits. It was then that I learned of and met the Lady of Magic, Sisuepahn Phila. She was having a New Years Eve party benefiting the Midnight Mission, a homeless shelter in downtown Los Angeles. Since then we have attended her fundraisers whenever possible. Yesterday, she had a free magic show for children. I had a previous engagement so I was not able to stay very long, but I was there long enough to see that the kids were truly amazed with some of the tricks they saw.

The Lady of Magic specializes in children’s parties, fundraisers, special events and donates 15% of proceeds to charities. We have gone to a few events there and have always had a great time. If you are looking for something a little different for your event, you might want to check out the Redondo Beach Castle. I am sure you will enjoy yourself. Continue reading

Business & Beer returns to Sophie’s Place, Redondo Beach

These photos are from our 14th Business & Beer gathering, which was held at Sophie’s Place in Redondo Beach. Sophie’s Place is a great little gastropub in the Riviera Village and one of our personal favorite destinations in Redondo Beach. On the drive over there I could not help but notice how beautiful the sky and ocean was, so I did stop to take some photos, which is why some of the beginning pictures are not exactly business or beer.

We had a lot of competition yesterday with inclement weather, a Chamber of Commerce business expo and the debate between Biden and Ryan so we were pleased with the turn out. We had about 15 people come out, which included two second time attendees. For the first time since we started Business & Beer, we did not have any first timers, but like I said, there were several things going on yesterday. It is good to see that people that did not know each other a few weeks ago are greeting each other like old friends.

Next week we will return to the Alpine Inn at Alpine Village in Torrance. Long known for their German food and European beers, Alpine Inn now carries a wide selection of craft beers. In fact, they have a lot of craft beer you would not likely expect to find there. The GM is a home brewer, so he knows good beer and now makes it available on their multiple rotating taps.
