Fall Gathering Open House at Abigaile, Hermosa Beach

Last night we went to the Abigaile Fall Gathering open house in Hermosa Beach. If you read this blog with any regularity you have probably heard me mention them on numerous occasions as they house The Brewery at Abigaile. We discovered them during American Craft Beer Week when the manager at The Rockefeller recommended them to us. We quickly became big fans. Not only did they brew a wide variety of beers, but they had some nice plates on their menu that made it interesting to experiment. I soon learned of their Chef Tin and was immediately impressed. The guy is good. Anyway, we kept returning and became fairly regular and watched them evolve.

In June we heard Abigaile was having an open house and releasing a couple new brews, so we headed down. I have to admit, I was surprised. Not only were they offering tasters of the new beer but Chef Tin was out on the patio barbecuing and they had a table of cheeses, olives, meats and more. They even had dessert. Oh, I forgot to mention, it was free. When I read on Facebook that they were doing it again last night, we made sure we were there. It was another great time. I spoke with the owner, Jed Sanford, about it and he said he was making it a seasonal thing to show his appreciation to all those that spend time there. Nice attitude, I guess that is another reason we enjoy coming there. Continue reading

Business & Beer comes to Tortilla Cantina, Torrance

It was Day 8 of LA Beer Week (LABW) and Business & Beer made their first appearance at Tortilla Cantina in Old Torrance. From what I heard and saw, everyone had a great time. Tortilla Cantina is a “taco bistro” that boasts 18 different kinds of tacos and 35 beers on tap. Most of the beers are craft beers with several local options available. We had about 15 people with a few first timers and a couple second timers; it looked like they were all enjoying the networking opportunity.

Next week, Business & Beer will return to The Rockefeller, a gastropub in Hermosa Beach. I know everyone that came out last time really enjoyed it and there have been several that told me they regretted not making it the last time, so I think we should have a nice group. Be sure to bring your business cards. The Rockefeller has a nice menu and specials on Thursdays. They have about 25 beers on tap, and serve flights. Tanya says they have the best burgers in the South Bay. I recommend their bread pudding, it rocks. Bring your other half and make an evening of it; they can sit with us too. We encourage it. Business & Beer returns to The Brewery at Abigaile, Hermosa Beach

LA Beer Week started on Thursday, September 20, and Business & Beer acknowledged the event by returning to The Brewery at Abigaile in Hermosa Beach. The Brewery at Abigaile is a brewpub that happens to brew some of the finest beers in the South Bay and has an outstanding food menu as well. With their wide selections of available beers it is safe to say there is something for just about everyone.

This was Business & Beer’s second visit to Abigaile and we had our largest gathering to date. In fact, the only other gathering that came close to Thursday’s meeting was our first visit to Abigaile back in July. What I found interesting was that we had many newcomers; in fact, close to half were first timers. It is apparent the word is getting out; be it from this blog, Facebook or just word of mouth by our regular attendees. People seem to love the idea and business is being done, so it is doing as it should. Enjoy the photos.

Our next Business & Beer get-together will be Thursday, September 27 at Tortilla Cantina; you can get all the details on and I hope to see you there. Continue reading
