Why isn’t your rheumatologist suggesting stem cells?

A few weeks ago I mentioned that Tanya’s rheumatologist, Dr. Forouzesh, had told me about an upcoming Frontiers of Rheumatology symposium that was coming up [at the end of April] in Marina del Rey at the Marriott Hotel. I decided that I would attempt to get a media pass so I could learn a little more about what is being talked about in the profession with regards to Rheumatoid Autoimmune Disease. I will admit, it took a little doing; and while Dr. Furst, one of the co-chairs of the event, gave the okay to my attendance, if I had not followed up no one was going to tell me. When I called to follow up I was informed that I could come, however, I could not bring my camera, I had to sit in the back of the room and I could ask no questions. I was not going to let a little thing like having my hands tied hang me up, so I made plans to go out to Marina del Rey over the weekend.

Frontiers of Rheumatology Symposium at the Marriott Marina del Rey

Unfortunately, I was unable to make it to the early morning sessions on Friday due to a major plumbing issue at home. When I attempted to enter for what I thought was perhaps a Q&A and discussion on RA treatments after their lunch break, I was told I could not attend afternoon sessions. One session I really wanted to attend was called Measuring RA Outcomes: Big Brother is Watching. I hoped that perhaps stem cell therapy might have been mentioned. I have a feeling it was not. A Saturday ride around the South Bay

I picked up a new Canon 5D Mark II the other day and since I need to get some practice in before I feel comfortable photographing events, like the PV Street Fair coming up in a few weeks, I decided to take a ride around the South Bay with a couple friends and put the camera through some real world experience; the way I plan on using it.

We started off by riding around the Palos Verdes Peninsula and ended up at Trump National Golf Club for a beer and a little snack. After spending a little time these we headed over to the Strand Brewing Company in Torrance. There we happened to run into Bonnie, our server from our visit to Rock & Brews a couple weeks ago. As coincidence would have it, she just happened to be there helping out. Strand Brewing has been around a couple years, but I guess they just opened their tasting room a couple weeks or months ago. As one member of our group had to leave, I called Tanya to see if she wanted to join us at Matsuyama Sushi. Naturally, she did so we headed over to the house to pick her up. It was the perfect end to a pretty perfect day. It turns out, I really like the camera too. Continue reading

BNI Noon Networkers at South End Racquet Club

Last week at a Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce event, I was approached about coming to a meeting of the BNI Noon Networkers at the South End Racquet and Tennis Club, which was held today. BNI stands for Business Networking International, an global business networking organization that has been around for 25 years. The premise is that each chapter limits membership to one business per category. For example, at the networking event I attended today, there was a realtor, dentist, graphic artist, auto mechanics, computer repair person and several other occupations represented. I was invited since they wanted a photographer in their chapter.

It was my first meeting with the group, and they definitely exude enthusiasm. Whether it was the recital of the BNI Networking Code of Ethics, or the 30 second pitches members [and guests] made, there was lots of applause. We were encouraged to utilize BNI to improve our VCP, Visibility, Credibility and Profitability. While I was there I did pick up a couple business cards I am pretty sure will be used and I gave out a few. If you are a small business owner, you might want to see if BNI has a chapter local to you.
