Kiwanis Hot Air BalloonFest Photos

Valparaiso Kiwanis 20th Annual Hot Air BalloonFest

Valparaiso, IN – September 11, 2010

I flew into Chicago yesterday as the first leg of my Euro Tour 2010, as Tanya is coming with me and it was faster than having her come to LA. It turns out that Valparaiso, IN was a hotbed of activity this weekend. One event I wanted to attend was the popcorn festival, but time was tight. Instead we headed over to the Porter County Fairgrounds for the Valparaiso Kiwanis 20th Annual Hot Air BalloonFest. I was told that they would have tethered balloon rides, but no such luck. Anyway, I got some pretty nice photos, so I hope you enjoy them.

It really hurts me to do this

Seriously, it is painful to sit and type at my laptop lately as I have injured myself. Unfortunately, my doctor is incompetent and my insurance company forces me to jump through hoops, so I guess I will have to toughen up for a while. It also means that most likely my photo a day project will be done in bursts rather than daily. So, here we go with a summary of the last few days.

As my regular readers now, I am quite fond of Gu Gu Sushi and they created the GotBaddog.com roll for me. Since then I have had friends from all over the US and around the world come into town and make their way out to Hermosa Beach to try it. My picture of the day for day 250 is of my friend Jenni at Gu Gu. She flew in from Tampa so she could try the GotBaddog roll. She loved it.

Petrified Forest Photos

Petrified Forest, Piedmont, SD

Photos From the Petrified Forest of the Black Hills

When I first arrived at the campground in Piedmont, SD I noticed there was a sign for a petrified forest that seemed to be located somewhere on the grounds that our cabin was located. After spending the day in Spearfish Canyon, Deadwood and the motocross races we decided to spend a little time back at the cabin. I spoke with one of the girls that worked there and she told me that the petrified forest was just over the hill that was behind the cabin. We decided to go check it out.

I have been to a few petrified forests over the years, and most of them have been quite unimpressive. This was was an exception to the rule. There were complete trees laying around. If you looked or touched them without knowing what you were looking at, they would probably appear as nothing more than rocks. When you paid closer attention you could see that these were definitely trees that were over 120 million years old! That is pretty cool in my book. These photos are from the petrified forest as well as the surrounding valley. After checking out the forest we headed into town for a little dinner at the Sawtooth Saloon.
