Photos from Amarillo and El Malpais

These photos were taken at Leal’s Mexican Restaurant in Amarillo, TX, then along Route 66 in New Mexico and El Malpais National Monument. I stopped in Amarillo, TX for a late lunch, early dinner. A local radio station ad piqued my interest, so I headed for Leal’s. The food was okay, but Southern California has the best Mexican food anywhere.

As I continued into New Mexico I came upon a roadside stand outside of Laguna. While talking to one of the girls about the large rocks holding the roof onto her stand, she told me they were lava and that I should take a detour to El Malpais National Monument and their Sandstone Bluffs. I took her advise and was glad I did.

Road Trip Day 8

Sights From Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana

Yesterday, I commented that the plains of Texas and Oklahoma were, in a word, plain. Today was the opposite. We took I-35 south to I-20 east and it was quite scenic. It is easy to see why they call Louisiana the Sportsman’s Paradise. Tomorrow we pay a visit to Camp Shelby in Mississippi to deliver about 200 tubes of lip balm to troops headed to Afghanistan. Then, more sightseeing.

Tyler State Park – Day 109 of Project 365

While yesterday’s view of Oklahoma and Texas were rather plain, today was quite different. Much more lush. I have never been to these portions of Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana before. Today’s daily photo is of my girlfriend and me at Tyler State Park, in Texas.
