Business & Beer Meetup at Abigaile

These photos are from our Business and Beer gathering with Meetup last Thursday, May 9, at The Brewery at Abigaile. I cannot really say why I am just now getting around to posting the photos, other than it was a busy weekend. The Brewery at Abigaile is my favorite brewpub and is located in Hermosa Beach. I was introduced to them one year ago and became an instant fan. Last Thursday was a special evening at Abigaile in that they were doing a food pairing with Beachwood BBQ & Brewing from Long Beach and they are another of my favorite local brewers, so it was a very good night to be at Abigaile.

Out turnout was not great, but we did get a couple new attendees that came as a direct result of our involvement with Meetup. I guess it should figure that as soon as I announce that we are going to drop Meetup, more people using them would show up. You can read more about the event on BusinessNBeer.com. Continue reading

1st Annual Froth Awards: No green beer allowed

Sunday, St. Patrick’s Day, and what better way to celebrate than to enjoy some of the best beers brewed in the South Bay at the Easy Reader 1st Annual Froth Awards held at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach. They called it the Froth Awards, but I do not think it was as much a competition as an award of recognition to the rising stars of brewing in the South Bay. The day consisted of live music to accompany the food and beer pairings that were provided. The winners were those that attended; we got some great beer, food and music.

We started off with a pairing of The Brewery at Abigaile’s Death or Glory IPA along with a chicken skin taco with mango sauce from The Standing Room; it was my favorite. We then had El Segundo Brewing Company’s Blue House IPA with a seared ahi, won ton, guacamole combination from The Rockefeller. The Blue House was amazing, as usual. The third pairing was Monkish Brewing’s Feminist Trippel with chilled mussel on the half shell from Tin Roof Bistro. I never had mussels before; still not sure why people eat them. This was followed by a pairing with Strand Brewing Company’s Second Sleep Russian Imperial Porter and a lamb shoulder with baby carrots from Hot’s Kitchen; it was great. For dessert we had Smog City’s Groundwork’s Coffee Porter with an almond biscotti from Simmzy’s. It was probably the first time I dipped a cookie into a beer. Continue reading

The Brewery at Abigaile hosts another Business N Beer

Last night we had another Business & Beer, this time returning to my favorite brewpub, The Brewery at Abigaile in Hermosa Beach. This was our first meetup in two weeks, and the first since Lent started, so I am not sure how much this combination contributed to our smaller than normal turnout. That is okay, those of us that came out had a good time and it gave us time to get to know each other more.

If you live or work in the South Bay area and enjoy networking while enjoying a local craft beer, you should look into Business & Beer the networking group that has no dues, no mandatory meetings and no hurried breakfasts or lunches. We meet every Thursday at a different microbrewery, brewpub or gastropub at 6:00 PM. You can find the schedule on the front page of BusinessNBeer.com and you can Like Us on Facebook to ensure you are kept in the loop. Continue reading
