American Craft Beer Week: 1321 Taproom and Hudson House
Day three of the 7th Annual American Craft Beer Week found us at 1321 Downtown Taproom in Torrance and Hudson House in Redondo Beach. It has been a year since my first visit to 1321 Taproom and my first visit to Hudson House. Actually, I never heard of Hudson House prior to yesterday, so this search for different craft beers is definitely introducing me to new places in the South Bay.
We started off at 1321 Downtown Taproom because they serve flights and we were not planning on dining. It turns out that was a good plan since they apparently had a power outage earlier and the food menu was rather limited. The first time I went to 1321 they offered three different pre-defined flights; today they let you chose the four brews you want to try. If you ask, your server should be able to create one for you. Yesterday, Christine helped us and came up with a great flight of American craft brews that I had yet to try: Scrimshaw, Dale’s Pale Ale, Rose’s Hips and Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti. Tanya, being a dark beer fan opted for the Old Chub. It was a great start to day three. Read more…

Counseling4Kids first annual Bowl4Kids at Palos Verdes Bowl
Monday evening, Counseling4Kids.org held their first annual bowl-a-thon at the Palos Verdes Bowl in Torrance, CA to help kick off National Foster Care Awareness Month. Bowl4Kids is a fundraiser that brought together local businesses and service organizations for a little friendly competition while helping Couseling4Kids to provide mental health services to children in Los Angeles County’s foster care system. The event was sponsored by Whole Foods Market in Torrance, California Credit Union and Kaiser Permanente and included trophies for Top Bowling Team and Top Bowler; as well as prizes for Top Fundraiser and Top Fundraising Group. Additional fund raising was done via a silent auction that included many nice donations, including tickets to an LA Galaxy home game, several gift baskets, lunch a Andre’s Restaurant, dinner at Tony Roma’s and Elephant Bar, a day at Total Woman Gym, theater tickets, a deluxe party at PV Bowl and much more; including a great big basket of cookies from Daddy’s Gourmet Cookies. To be honest, that is the one I wanted, but I was too busy taking photos to get my bid in on time.
I became aware of Conseling4Kids through our involvement with the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce. Since we started attending the TACC Networking at Noon events, we have started providing door prizes; including SEO reports and photo coverage of events. I was very happy when Counseling4Kids won the photo shoot as I have a special place in my heart for foster children and any organization that helps them. Read more…

BNI Noon Networkers at South End Racquet Club
Last week at a Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce event, I was approached about coming to a meeting of the BNI Noon Networkers at the South End Racquet and Tennis Club, which was held today. BNI stands for Business Networking International, an global business networking organization that has been around for 25 years. The premise is that each chapter limits membership to one business per category. For example, at the networking event I attended today, there was a realtor, dentist, graphic artist, auto mechanics, computer repair person and several other occupations represented. I was invited since they wanted a photographer in their chapter.
It was my first meeting with the group, and they definitely exude enthusiasm. Whether it was the recital of the BNI Networking Code of Ethics, or the 30 second pitches members [and guests] made, there was lots of applause. We were encouraged to utilize BNI to improve our VCP, Visibility, Credibility and Profitability. While I was there I did pick up a couple business cards I am pretty sure will be used and I gave out a few. If you are a small business owner, you might want to see if BNI has a chapter local to you.
