Cheesy Christmas Sweaters

When I think about it, the concept of cheesy Christmas sweaters always seemed to be set against the backdrop of a 60’s or 70’s sitcom; or perhaps a Family Circle cartoon in the Sunday funnies, I did not really give any thought to the fact that this might be a real thing. Well, I have had my eyes opened. Saturday, Tanya and I joined some friends at their 3rd Annual Cheesy Christmas Sweater Party. Since I do not think I have really noticed a cheesy sweater before, I was not entirely sure what to expect in the way of cheesy Christmas sweaters. I will not have that problem anymore, the guests that attended and participated by wearing cheesy Christmas sweaters have burnt “cheesy” into my memory for life.

In addition to the cheesy sweaters there was fun people, good food and really good beer. Our host mixed up a batch of some amazing eggnog, so all of our bases were covered for a very fun Christmas party. Thank you to our hosts and congrats to the winner of the cheesiest Christmas sweater contest. Merry Christmas. Continue reading

Building Rose Parade floats at Fiesta Floats

Saturday, I headed out to Irwindale, CA to visit Fiesta Floats so I could take some photos of the building of the City of Torrance entry to the 2013 Rose Parade. As it turned out, Kaiser Permanente was having a Family Day for friends and family of Kaiser Permanente employees so there was a lot more going on than I expected. The Kaiser Permanente float was being showcased and they had magicians, crafts and games for the kids. They even let people help prepare things for the actual decorating of the float.

The City of Torrance float is coming along nicely, and decorating will be getting started within the next week or so (I would guess). The city no longer sponsors the Rose Parade entry, so it is funded by donations to the Torrance Rose Float Association (TRFA). The Torrance Rose Float Association is a non-profit so they rely entirely on donations. For more details on how you can help, please visit their website. Continue reading

Candy Cane Lane at Sleepy Hollow ready for Christmas 2012

December is here and that means that the Sleepy Hollow area of Torrance has been transformed once again to Candy Cane Lane. Last night was the first night of the Sleepy Hollow Christmas Light Extravaganza so we decided to take a drive over and see if the neighborhood was ready yet. Since it was the first weekend not all the homes appeared to be ready yet; but as it was a little rainy the crowds were minimal so it was okay. You can be sure that as Christmas draws closer there will be more and more homes decorated and the neighborhood will become full as caravans of cars cruise the streets and the sidewalks fill up with families walking up and down them enjoying the beauty, Christmas carols and the hot chocolate that can be purchased.

The lights at Candy Cane Lane are on from 6:00 PM until 10:00 and will be on every night until at least New Years. This is great family fun and if you have out of town guests I can assure you that this is an experience they will not soon forget. If you are not sure how to get to Candy Cane Lane you can use my easy to follow directions; it is freeway close from anywhere in Los Angeles or Orange counties. I recommend finding a parking spot and walking up and down the streets, it is pretty magical. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas. Continue reading
