Strand Brewing Co hosts another Business & Beer

The South Bay’s most fun business networking group, Business & Beer, returned to the Strand Brewing Company tasting room Thursday and I think it is safe to say that everyone had a good time. We had close to 15 people come by with several of them being second time attendees. In addition, Rich Marcello, one of the co-owners of Strand Brewing Co, is always good about directing his customers that might benefit from our networking group over to us. We definitely appreciate it. For those that are familiar with Strand Brewing Company but have not visited in the last couple …

Tortilla Cantina hosts another Business & Beer

Last night, Business & Beer returned to Tortilla Cantina in downtown Torrance and we had a very nice turnout. Since we do not have mandatory meetings, people show up when they can and if they are too busy with other things on a particular night, they are welcomed back with open arms. Last night we had several people we have not seen in a while along with one new attendee. It made for a pretty good sized group and everyone seemed to have a good time. Remember, if networking with others is part of your business model and you live …

Business & Beer at Alpine Inn, Torrance

These photos are from our return visit to the Alpine Inn with our Business & Beer networking group. The Alpine Inn is a German gastropub that has a nice selection of craft beers from the United States, Germany and the Czech Republic. This was our third visit to the Alpine Inn and it seems that every time we meet there we have a nice turnout of about 15 people. When you consider that Alpine Village is the furthest south we take our group and that it was only three days after New Year’s Day, I was pleased to see the …

Business & Beer comes to 1321 Downtown Taproom Bistro, Torrance

These photos are from our Business & Beer gathering at the 1321 Downtown Taproom Bistro, a gastropub located in Old Torrance. 1321 Taproom is a popular destination for beer drinkers due to the 16 taps of craft beers that they have available. They also offer flights of various sizes (4, 8, 12) for the adventurous craft beer drinkers out there. While the name indicates that they serve food as well as drink, they are in the process of redoing their kitchen staff and menu, so the kitchen is currently closed. To welcome Business & Beer for their first get-together at …

Float preparation at Fiesta Floats

A couple of weeks ago I headed out to Fiesta Floats in Irwindale, CA to take some photos of the float being entered in the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade by the City of Torrance. Fiesta Floats creates some of the best floats in the Tournament of Roses and has won the Sweepstakes Award for the last 19 years. That is pretty impressive. As it turned out, Kaiser Permanente was having a family day there, so the warehouse was pretty packed and it made it difficult to get a lot of shots. I went back this morning to see what …

Sleepy Hollow and the Legend of Candy Cane Lane

These photos were taken last night at the Sleepy Hollow area of Torrance, which is known as Candy Cane Lane during the Christmas season; a look at the photos makes it easy to figure out why they call it that. On December 1, Tanya and I went there to take some photos like I have for the past couple of years. There were definitely a lot of lights that went up between then and now. Homes that we thought were decorated on December 1 had even more decorations on December 18. Even though it was cold and windy, there were …

Santa Claus comes to North Torrance

Santa Claus made a visit to several neighborhoods in North Torrance Tuesday evening, and judging by the turnout and smiles at just one stop; he was a huge hit. Sponsored by the Torrance Police Officers Association (TPOA), Santa’s Sleigh has been going up and down the streets of Torrance since at least 1992. To be honest, they have never gone down our street so I have only caught glimpses of the sleigh as it passed around a corner. Tonight I walked over to another neighborhood to check it out up close. The sleigh stops at either end of long blocks …

Cheesy Christmas Sweaters

When I think about it, the concept of cheesy Christmas sweaters always seemed to be set against the backdrop of a 60’s or 70’s sitcom; or perhaps a Family Circle cartoon in the Sunday funnies, I did not really give any thought to the fact that this might be a real thing. Well, I have had my eyes opened. Saturday, Tanya and I joined some friends at their 3rd Annual Cheesy Christmas Sweater Party. Since I do not think I have really noticed a cheesy sweater before, I was not entirely sure what to expect in the way of cheesy …

Building Rose Parade floats at Fiesta Floats

Saturday, I headed out to Irwindale, CA to visit Fiesta Floats so I could take some photos of the building of the City of Torrance entry to the 2013 Rose Parade. As it turned out, Kaiser Permanente was having a Family Day for friends and family of Kaiser Permanente employees so there was a lot more going on than I expected. The Kaiser Permanente float was being showcased and they had magicians, crafts and games for the kids. They even let people help prepare things for the actual decorating of the float. The City of Torrance float is coming along …

Candy Cane Lane at Sleepy Hollow ready for Christmas 2012

December is here and that means that the Sleepy Hollow area of Torrance has been transformed once again to Candy Cane Lane. Last night was the first night of the Sleepy Hollow Christmas Light Extravaganza so we decided to take a drive over and see if the neighborhood was ready yet. Since it was the first weekend not all the homes appeared to be ready yet; but as it was a little rainy the crowds were minimal so it was okay. You can be sure that as Christmas draws closer there will be more and more homes decorated and the …
