Project365 photo recap for February 2011

Another month has passed us by. This year is going by pretty quickly. February included a couple of journeys up to Yosemite National Park. Tanya and I spent our first Valentine’s Day together, so that was cool. I have to admit, my shadow theme for this month was not a great idea. I probably should have saved that one for August.

Another Sierra Nevada morning

I decided to try and get another shot of Horsetail Falls, so last night Buddy and I hit the road and headed back up north. Since Oakhurst has better cell phone and wireless Internet reception than Mariposa, we spent the night there. My picture of the day for day 54 of Project365 is of me admiring a carved replica of the Statue of Liberty which we came across on our morning walk.

Photos from a snowy Yosemite

If you are a regular reader of GotBaddog.com you will recall that last week Tanya and I went up to Yosemite to try and photograph a natural phenomena that occurs the last two weeks of February at Horsetail Falls. This phenomena requires a few things to be right in order for the effect to happen. These include sunlight and enough water coming over the falls in addition to the proper positioning of the sun, which only happens in February. We lucked out and went 2:2 on Saturday and Sunday. On Valentine’s Day we could see a storm was moving in, …

Photos from Yosemite and Horsetail Falls

Although we have been a couple for almost four years now, this is the first Valentine’s Day that we will spend together. I decided that it would be nice if we celebrated it by going to see something that relatively few people have seen. For a few weeks of February, Horsetail Falls, in Yosemite National Park, puts on a show that is only visible for 10 or 15 minutes a day. We spoke with people that have tried to photograph it unsuccessfully for years. We got it on our first try.

My Project 365 Year End Gallery

It has been a year since I changed the format of GotBaddog.com. In that time, I have done a lot of traveling and I have taken a lot of photos. I would not even hazard a guess as to how many photos I take in a year, I just know I am glad we use memory cards instead of film these days. In the past year, Tanya and I have visited AZ, NV, UT, NM, CO, OK, TX, LA, MS, AR, TN, KY, MO, NE, IA, IN, SD KS, IL, WY, Ireland, Spain and The Netherlands. I also went to …

50,000 Miles

I remember flying to Tanya’s for the 4th of July 2009, and that my odometer on the Charger had turned 33,333 miles. The number stuck in my mind because I remember odd things like that, and it was about half of what Tanya had on her Charger, which she purchased a few months after me. In the first 3.5 years I averaged about 775 miles a month. In the last 16 months I have averaged almost 1,050 miles a month. Considering I do not drive to work, and I was in Europe for at least a month of that, that …

Healthy Dinner

Tanya went back home to Indiana, which means it is time for me to get back on my healthy diet. Since we were on the road most of last week it was difficult for me to continue my juicing. We both use Take Charge in the morning, so it was just a matter of picking up some yogurt at the local 7-11 and we were set for the beginning of the day. It was just a matter of finding something good for you for dinner. My photo of the day for Thursday is a before shot of my dinner. I …

Photos Of the California Coastline

Photos From CA Hwy 1 Santa Cruz to San Simeon After a fun evening in Santa Cruz we grabbed some coffee and headed down CA Hwy 1. It was another spectacular day and it held promise for some great coastline photos. We were not disappointed. The CA coastline actually faces north, south and west so depending on the direction faced the scenery can be quite different, from calm blue coves to tumultuous waves crashing on the gigantic rocks that are prevalent along the coast in that area. If you have never driven along the California coastline, you owe it to …

Photos of Marin and Santa Cruz

Photos From Marin County and Santa Cruz Tiburon, Pt Reyes and Santa Cruz We drove a couple hundred miles back to Novato on Saturday so we could have brunch with my aunt and uncle on Sunday. I have not spent enough time with either in far too long, so it was nice having a few hours. The weather kept getting better. I could not believe it. We went for brunch at a nice outdoor cafe on the water in Tiburon. Afterward, we drove to Point Reyes then out by the Marin Headlands to take a few more photos. By the …

Photos From Redwoods National Park

The Drive from Eureka to Crescent City Photos From US Hwy 101 Between Eureka and Crescent City We woke up in Eureka on Saturday morning. My good friend, Cathy, had the day off so she joined Tanya, Buddy and me as we ventured further north to take some more photos. We went up into the Redwoods National Forest then to Crescent City before stopping in Trinidad for an early dinner. It was a fairly overcast day and we did get a little rain, but hey, it is November, and we were pretty far north.
