Photos From the Avenue of the Giants

Photos From the California Redwoods Our Drive To Humboldt Redwoods State Park Tanya arrived on Wednesday evening. Thursday morning we decided we wanted to go somewhere. We thought about Utah, but for some reason the weather appeared to be nicer up north, so we decided to head up to see the Redwoods. We spent Thursday evening in Novato so we had nothing but nice scenery all day Friday. The weather was amazing. We ended the day in Eureka where we spent then evening with a dear friend.

Visiting Humboldt State Park

Tanya and I decided to go check out the Redwoods since she has not been more than 50 miles north of San Francisco. We started off nice and early in Novato and the day’s weather was amazing. Uncharacteristically so. My photo of the day for day 316 is of Tanya and I at one of the many roadside attractions found along US Highway 101.

California Highway 99 – Turlock

Photos From California Highway 99 Turlock, CA The homes in the part of Turlock we saw were all pretty new. We did manage to go inside one, so naturally I took pictures. It was a very nice home. Some of these places start blending into each other, but Turlock was one of the nicer communities we visited. A lot of new homes for sale up there, but they did pack the houses close together.

California Highway 99 – Hughson

Photos From California Highway 99 Hughson, CA The next stop on our tour of CA Highway 99 was Hughson. To be fair, Hughson is not really on Highway 99, but it was a prospective location for my friends to move to, so we took the six or seven mile detour. On the way, we came across the Resendiz Family Fruit Barn which was decorated for Halloween and had pony rides and tasty treats to give families a nice destination for a Sunday afternoon. I also took the opportunity to introduce Tanya to taco trucks, which have the best carne asada …

California Highway 99 – Ceres

Photos From California Highway 99 Ceres, CA The next town we stopped in was Ceres, CA. It borders Modesto and if it were not for the sign saying we had entered Ceres, I doubt I would have noticed a difference. Ceres seemed to be a clean, quiet town with nothing particularly remarkable about it. Lots of orchards and fields for crops. It was Sunday and rainy, so not sure if that was the reason why it seemed to be so quiet.

California Highway 99 – Modesto

Photos From California Highway 99 Modesto, CA A few miles south of Ripon we came into Modesto, the first of the prospective towns my friends from Arkansas considered moving to. I always say that you can tell a lot about a place by the motorcycles in it, so a stop at the Harley-Davidson dealership made sense. For those of you that feel I am not giving an accurate portrayal of Modesto or any of the other towns in this CA Hwy 99 series, these photos are only meant to give a first impression of these places, from an unbiased perspective. …

Photos from Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park Photos From the High Sierra After spending the day in Sequoia National Park we drove to Oakhurst to spend the evening. It was a really nice place to wake up to. I took Buddy out for his morning walk, then after bringing him back to the room, I went for another walk with my camera. After a small breakfast we headed up Highway 41 to Yosemite. I can not believe I had never been before. The one thing I noticed was that the views looked almost fake because they were so beautiful. It was like a pull …

Big Tree Day

Tanya and I did not have anything to do last night. I told her I had no objection to just jumping in the car and taking off. She suggested that what I was really saying is that I wanted to go for a ride. Since she was game, I asked Buddy if he wanted to go. He made it pretty clear he was up for it. My photo of the day for day 288 if on Tanya and I in front of a huge tree in Sequoia National Park.

Photos from Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks

Photos from Sequoia and Kings Canyon Southern Sierra Nevada National Parks I do not really have a lot to say. Tanya was in town and there was nothing on TV. I asked Buddy if he wanted to go for a ride and he jumped in the car and waited for two hours, so we went for a drive. We ended up at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. It was a lot different there today than when I went to Sequoia last May. Zero snow and the rivers were way down. I suppose that is only natural and next May …
